Mystery part

Hey everyone - I am hoping you can help me identify the proper name for a shock/stabilizer as the counter guy at the local MB dealership thinks its a hassle to look stuff up. Anyway I did the oil change on the 430 yesterday and noticed the shock that is under the car mounted horizontial appears to be leaking oil. I want to replace it but cant locate the name to order it.

any help is appreciated

it is call a steering damper. If you are having problems with your parts guy talk to the office manager. My dealer has very high customer service standards and they like to know if somone is slacking off. also for the price we pay for this stuff they should be more than helpfull.

thanks! The parts counter guy only knows exact names from his screen. After recently pretending he didnt know which light bulb i was talking about he also gave me the wrong city light which broke my connector. This after i gave him the actual bulb... any way i have zero confidence in him.

It's very easy to change. It's as simple as it looks.

I replaced mine earlier in the year. Yes it is just the two bolts. I jacked my car up using the lift points behind the wheels so as not to put any strain on the suspension. Really all you have to do is unbolt it and bolt the new one back on. Just pay attention to the orientation of the steering damper when you remove it.

awesome, i usually do not like to mess with front end suspension related jobs unless im certain of how to do it.

having to be towed into a dealer with the steering a mess is not only expensive, but embarassing. I watched a neighbor go through this when he couldnt get the ball joints replaced on his own...
