Pioneer AVIC-X940BT in 2000 CLK 430
Got an AVIC-X940BT for my new (to me) 2000 CLK430 Coupe. I have read MarcusF's brilliant piece on the install in the 208's multiple times, but have a couple of questions.
1) Will the steering wheel features for the dash display still work with the new SWI controllers?
2) Will someone confirm that the SWI-PS and the SWI-Can2 are the correct control interfaces for my combination?
3) As the SOEM-2 MarcusF described is no longer available, does the PAC SOEM-4 work for the same set up?
4) I assume I need a wiring harness and antenna adapter to go with the installation kit, no?
Really appreciate all I have have learned so far on here, and looking forward to learning much more.

On my car, the steering wheel controls control the head unit and iPod, but the dash display remains black when in audio mode. In order to display radio stations and tracks, the head unit would have to send a signal that the TFT display in the dash understands. I don’t believe any aftermarket head unit does this.
The SWI-PS and SWI-CAN2 are the correct combination.
I’ve never used an SOEM-4, but it appears to be the replacement for the OEM2. Based on everything I have read, it should work. The safest route is to call PAC Audio - www.pac-audio.com they have a good help desk.
Both a wiring harness adapter and an antenna adapter are needed.
I hope that helps

I just completed my Kenwood KDC-x996 HU replacement using the SOEM-4, .. and of course, Marcus's detailed write-up. Would not and could not have done it without it.
I actually ordered a PAC OEM-2 from some outfit, trying to stay true to Marcus's directions but they sent me an SOEM-4. I was pissed ... anyway, it worked out fine.
I only used the speaker wires and ground wire of the SOEM-4, leaving the the other 3 or 4 wires taped off. I then connected the HU wiring directly to the wire harness adapter for 12V const., Power Amp On, and Illumination. For 12V switched power (ACC), I tapped into the cig lighter using the HU 12V switched power wire (red in my case).
Fired right up and sounds awesome! 10 times better than the stock HU.

Blyde and anyone else who has used Marcus F's instructions. Is there room behind the head unit for all these extra components? The SWI-CAN and the SWI-PS, plus the SOEM-4 seem like a lot of extra boxes. Can someone provide pictures?

I used those instructions and . . . . . . . . . . . . and it fit in mine (single DIN). . . . . . . . .
Seriously, I don't know where else you could put them. Run wires under the arm rest? Possibly under the glove box. IIRC there was room for a double DIN.

The KDC-x996 is a single DIN unit. Yes, it will all fit behind the head unit. Tight, but it will all fit. Most of the space is behind the storage tray and the ashtray, not directly behind the HU. There's also space to the lower left and right of the ashtray.
