Check engine light came on and care started to shudder a bit. I found this thread and cleaned the MAF as described. The shudder seems to be gone, but the Check Engine Light is still on.

Is there an easy way to reset that myself without causing other issues? If something is still amiss I would presume the light would come on again.
Or if the MAF was the problem and cleaning the MAF solved it (the shudder that was there is gone now), will the light go off on its own after a time or must it be manually reset by a tech?

Where do you live? Most auto parts stores like Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, O'reilly etc offer a free code reading. Go by there and have it scanned, that will tell you if it is even related to the MAF or not.
Then once you get the code, post it here.

Well, my question is answered. After starting and stopping several times the CEL has gone off, so cleaning the MAF appears to have actually solved the problem.
I called the dealer and asked them, they confirmed. Once the CEL comes on, if the problem is resolved and the car is cold started 3 times the CEL will go off if the error state does not return.
So, no codes needed this time, we got it. Thanks for this thread!

However, if a state emissions inspection is near, you'll likely fail.
The reason is that there are a dozen or so senors, which need to reset from 'not ready' to 'ready'.
These too will automatically reset, but only after driving at least 300 miles.

Those without a code reader may want to consider buying one. They are inexpensive and can reset errors. Without a code reader, diagnostics can be expensive guesswork. IIRC mine was about $50 nine years ago (yes the price has gone up since then).
