W208 CLK320 Rear End Car Accident

I got into a fender bender and refuse to make a insurance claim due to my prior record. I need the following parts. If I cant get the work done less then $2,000.00 then I'm just going to part the car out or sell it completely. I love this car but it's time for me to move on if need be.

Rear Bumper
Trunk Lid
Right LED Taillight or a pair

Here is the report on what they say I needed but I don't agree with that amount. Accident Repair Quote.pdf:nix http://

If you pull the bumper and don't have any frame (unibody) damage and its just the bumper support and the center piece - you'll only need those parts and the trunklid. If you start the salvage route the total should be way under that. If there is frame damage thats another issue - check under the trunk mat and see if the floor feels buckled. More than likely since silver was the most popular color you shouldn't have a problem getting the exact part in the color you'll need - maybe just a good detail if its not chipped up and you can just bolt them on.

Unfortunately most of the CLK's that I've seen that were scrapped had rear end damage. The cost to repair them is insanely expensive if its hit just right - your's looks like it was center hit and not a side hit which wrinkles the side panels - thats what puts them beyond the repair limit for the insurance company. You have to cut and weld in a new quarter which is REALLY expensive and the results are not good - think rust eventually and bad panel alignments.

If you decide to part out, I need a few things I'd be willing to purchase from you.

While the circumstances of the accident are unclear, insurance claim repairs and/or surcharges are charged against only against the person at fault. Additionally, most states have accident reporting requirements (e.g. based on if personal injuries or X amount of $ property damage occurred etc.). Typically, but not always, accidents are not the fault of the vehicle suffering rear end damage (e.g. at fault is based on the driver that having control / causing the accident and being found more than 50% responsible).

The repair estimate seems about right. However, it is not clear if the replacement part prices were based on new OEM or salvage. For a 2000 CLK, insurance repairs will not use OEM parts, if a satisfactory salvage part is available.

However, because that estimate is, more then likely, more then your cars value, the insurance company will declare the car as being totaled and only pay the average trade in value price.

While trying to decide if I wanted to make changes in my collision and/or comprehensive coverage (e.g. cost benefit) on renewal this month, I was told the following.

My 2001 CLK320 Cabriolet, in above average condition with 82,000 miles, has an average trade in value of around $7,000 and if a future repair were more than 80% of that amount, they would declare the car totaled.

looks like the bumper cover is OK, you just need the center strip that is separate from the main cover. The impact looks pretty hard though, so maybe some frame damaged under it. I see some paint and labor for both quarters. The trunk lid can probably be found through a junk yard. The tails are probably the cheapest part, but you will likely have to buy a new full set or put the stock lights back on if you have them.

Finally got the car out of the local body shop. Same trunk and bumper. All they ordered was a new bumper cover (center strip). Amazing for $1,500.00. Now off to redoing the interior and wrapping the roof ( bad paint condition) with vinyl.

Looks Beautiful... What color / texture are you wrapping with? I've got some tips as I do tons of wrapping on the side.

I don't use my old account (Jasonowens32) anymore. Anyways, I was just planning on restoring the interior to the original. I haven't put a down payment yet on the fabric for the interior because I'm undecided still. I'm currently focusing my attention on wrapping the roof. It's getting that done on 2/10.
