W210 H&R SPRINGS COMPATIBLE WITH W208

I just bought a set of H&R 29724 lowering springs for my 99 Clk 320. I searched the model of these springs and they're for the W210 non awd. The guy I bought these from said they came off a W208 and even gave me the vin of the car and it was a 99 Clk 320 like mine. So from what I searched and found I saw some people say they might fit and some say they might not because W210 has double wishbone suspension. Anyway I'm just wanting to double check so if anyone knows and can help I would appreciate that! Also btw I did some searches and compared the H&R springs specified for CLK320 and the ones I bought that are specified for a W210 and the coils are different and from what I see the spring for the W210 is thicker. Does that affect anything?

99CLK320,
is there a part # on the springs? check it against the manufacturer's website or call them.

H&R 29724 thats the part number. it says its for W210 but seller insists he took them off a 99 clk320 i just wanna make sure they'll fit my CLK320 before doing work for nothing.

Anyone can look up a VIN range and give you "their VIN." Just because he used the wrong springs on his car (and now wants your $$) doesn't mean you should do the same. A 208 is not a 2-door 210. It's built on the same platform as a 202. Will they fit? Possibly. Will the spring rates and resulting handling be right for the curb weight and weight distribution of your particular car? No. Springs are cheap. Buy the right ones.

99CLK320,
I would bet that, even though the seller insists they were on a 320, if they are rated for a heavier W211 sedan I wouldn't put them on my 320. If you want to know if they will fit on a lighter coupe I would contact the manufacturer. No one around this forum that I know of would do that and I've been reading this forum since 2005.

Well the guy works for Mercedes he's a tech. He said the 320 used these springs for about 3K but the owner was giving his dad the car and his dad didnt want it lowered. Anyway ill call H&R and ask but from all of your feedbacks i don't think ill try putting them on. I didn't pay much anyway it was only $50 for the springs.

Also the weight difference is about 300lbs between W208 and W210. does make it a big factor? Also it looks like the H&R springs for the CLK have more coils at the top

Being a tech doesn't mean much. I've seen some ghastly work come out of dealership work bays. What's more likely is that he pulled the springs off of a trade and told you what he needed to tell you to get your fifty bucks.

Next time don't buy something on someone's word without doing your own research first. That's what the forums are here for - use them first. :0)

I searched the forums but barely found anything informative about W208 springs being replaced with W210 ones. And its what he said in the ad he didnt say W208 for me it was listed as taken off a W208 so I took a chance. I asked a couple other Mercedes people I know they said they it probably won't hurt to put them cause the springs are similar even the stock ones. So ill get them on and let you guys know what happens

You didn't find anything because most people on here wouldn't put the wrong springs on their car.

But hey to each their own; some people heat springs or cut them to get the look they want. You'll never catch me cheaping out on suspension pieces though.

Good luck!

ONE MORE THING. Im deciding on going padless all around because many people say it was hard to get the height evened out with pads so if i go padless should it even out.. I also read some people put #1 pads in the front and no pads in the rear. What do you guys prefer

the wrong springs + no pads? Your poor car.

Spring pad's effect on ride height and stance depends completely on your particular car. What works for one person will not necessarily work for you. Some cars come with the same spring pad thickness all around, some come with one thickness in the front and a different thickness in the back, some are different side to side, and some cars come from the factory with different pads at each corner. You have to see what you have on there now, and adjust each corner.

As for spring pads.

You should measure the difference between the left side and the right side of the rear for example. Some have went with a different L/R size spring pad, some have cut the spring by 1/4", very few to my knowledge have gone without pads, and finally some have shaved the rubber down from the top of the pad right before hit reaches the coils. I guess the option you choose will depend on your taste, your budget, and what you are looking for.

Hope you find this information useful.

Thanks for this it was very informative, and your front bumper is sick bro. So basically it might not come out even the first time? I will have to keep taking them off and stuff.
