Any good Race Stories?

Yesterday, I was sitting at a light when a SVT Mustang Cobra pulls up next to me. He revs is motor as to race, so I look at him with a look like Get Real. So he launches and I hung back to see how fast he was. I pulled to the next light I rolled down my window asked what he had done to his stang, he replied “chip, exhaust, and header”. I said it sounds nice to bad it’s slow. He says “lets go” the light changes I decided to give him a run and I smoked him, I waved to him as I passed him. At the next light he asked “does that have a V8 and I laughed

Angry This is so LAME

whats with this testosterone drive to race people that are next to you? Ya, your the man now. You SMOKED him, DooooD!

If you want to be a REAL MAN and really race, why don't you take it to the track?

I sure hope you dont hit another car or worse yet a pedestrian while racing on public streets.

C'mon guys!

Frederick, while it is your opinion that it is not cool to street or drag race, Stormy obviously likes to do that. We at MBWorld do not condone this type of behaviour, but it is certainly his right to do so, and I for one find it enjoyable to hear about. I still do it now and then as well. Cars are fun - let's have fun with them!

I do agree however to bring it to the track for some serious fun!

Thanks Brad, I am not out looking for street racing nor would I do it if I felt it was in unsafe area (school zone, heavy populated areas) I puchased a CLK55 to go fast once in while. I know others have had a few stories that I would like to here.

How much HP/Torque does the SVT mustang have stock? did you smoke him right away or did it take some time before you pulled away.

Not sure what the Hp/Torque is, but I was a little hesitant to jump on it so he took off first but around 45-50 mph I pulled on him and passed

I totally understand the thrill and enjoyment of going fast. I do that all the time as well. How could you resist with a CLK55. Just think drag racing is pretty juvenile.

Stormy, I would love to show you how much of a sissy I am someday. Maybe at the next get together?

I bet I can "buzz off" faster than you can in a race! Bahahaha

Hey Frederick:

I agree drag racing is somewhat juvenile but after all boys and their toys. let's face it most drivers buying 55's and M-5's are not going to turn down a race once in awhile. Did not mean to get you all worked up today, after all is friday. I look forward to see at the next meet maybe we could Drag Race (hhahha)

My next door "neighbor" (and I use the term loosely - "the jerk who happens to occupy the house next to mine" is more accurate) drives a Cobra. After many weeks of listening to him rip his exhust notes (over, and over, and over again) while he backs into his garage, I finally got a chance to line up with him at the stop light heading into our neighborhood. After the light, there's nearly two miles of straight to gently curving three lane ahead.

Suffice it to say that a) Cobra's ARE NOT the fastest things on the road , and b) he now backs into his garage MUCH more quietly.

I dont care if A Cobra, Camero, IROC-Z, Fast & Furious Import car blows you away.

How much cooler is your car and how much more style do you have just sitting still in your CLK (even if its a stock 320!)?

Its exponential!

No matter what happens, he STILL has to drive a Cobra after the race. Bahaha

One of my favorite comercials is that Thuderbird commercial where the guy wants to drag race, makes his hot girlfriend step out and start the race. The car blows the Thunderbird away and the camera shows the Thunderbird creeping along at 2 mph and asks the girl "Do you need a ride" and the guy leaves with the girl.

This is true. the clk is a very sophisticated car and beats the mustang hands down in all categories.
but, if you have the power and the guy is all ****y and wants to race, there is no harm in putting him in his place. (As long as the roads are clear)
That's why you bought the CLK 55. if you didn't want to go fast from time to time you would have just gotten the 320 and put on the amg body kit and wheels.

Have fun with your car but be safe also!!!

Race with C5 and Corba

I was sitting on a three lane road at a stop light and when it turned green it was on. The Cobra and I started (vette didn't go at this point) out going the Corba was ahead of the line with me about 2 feet behind. By the time we 50 i was about 1 car ahead and then i slowed at let the vette and cobra catch up. We then (all three of us) hit it from a role at about 40 mph and the Corba was way back there the vette pulled on me but only about 1/2 car, to look on his face was worth the loss, if i could of only beat him. He and his girl in the car were in shock that a benz could do that. That was fun race. I was in a CLK 430 Cab.

i have also raced many ricer cars, GSX, Hondas, most will beat me off the line because this car is slow off the line, or maybe i don't know how to jump off the line, but from a role i kill these cars. Others that are fun to run with are Chevy S-10 extreme's they are slow as hell. anyways those are some of my more fun runs that i can think of right now. If any more come up i will let you know. Have fun.

I was racing a Toyota Supra(not turbo) on 57 fwy, I was going top speed 137-140mph and passed him, he floored the car too. That Supra was a little bit slower than my car so I slowly pull him away to 2 car length, I'm still going top speed. All the sudden he accelerates like crazy and cut me off at at least 150mph, that was crazy !! I think it was NOS.

Just a little word of advice lowryder, i don't recommend going 130-140mph on the freeway. it would be very hard to recover at that speed if something were to get in your way. i'm sure you don't want to wreck your car or hurt yourself or others.
racing is fun..but racing with caution will save your life.
i'm not sure how you can feel safe going that fast.

2018 E400 COUPE SOLD -> Porsche Taycan 4S
some time last summer, about 11pm at night, on my way home, i am stopped at a light on a two lane street. there's about 1&1/2 mile of straight stretch road ahead of me. Then this white 95 honda civic hatchback pulls up to me. it is in the sh*ttiest shape, paints all messed up, big dent on the side. the driver starts reving his engine loud, to signify a challenge.. his exterior and interior lights were dimming so fast! ..... i almost pissed myself cuz i was laffin so hard!

Methinks that those inclined to race Mustangs will need to be a little more careful in the future. The '03 SVT Mustang Cobra due out sometime this summer will be supercharged and have a reported 390 HP and 390 lb. ft. torque. It also will have a 6 spd. manual transmission and needs to be electronically limited to keep it from exceeding 155 mph. It will be hard to tell it apart from the former renditions as there is little in the way of body changes. (Motor Trend, March 2002). It just might pose a threat in the traffic light grand prix.

Thumbs up Cobra's are fast

Out of all these post about Mercedes beating Cobras, nobody mentioned what year cobra. It makes a huge difference, I just ordered a 2003 Cobra and it comes with 390 HP, as soon as I get it some mods will be done and I'll have over 450hp. I also have a 2002 CLK 430 cab which is fast but a Cobra is a true muscle car and the mercedes is a fast luxury car.

If anyone wants to race that the track, I'll bring my 430 and my new cobra......

Cool Just for Fun

I happened to be driving my wifes truck (Chevy Tahoe big American V8!).

Anyway I was at the light with a kid in a Pontiac Grand Am with his girfriend and he kept looking over at our family truck and nudging forward. I decided I would burn a gallon of gas or so just for laughs (my wife could not belive it!).

So the lights turned green and I floored it. Just after the light there was a long up up hill run and my big old truck just left him behind.

Hey it was good for giggles and my wife got a good laugh as well.

Cheers to big iron V8s!

when it comes to racing, not many CLK's can take on an american muscle car. Even a CLK55 cant take on a new LS1 (corvette, firebird, or camaro) when it comes to drag racing.

But as someone said earlier......the CLK is a much more sophisticated, awesome car.

I hope no one bought their CLK with the goal of smashing around town racing against high horsepower american v8's. Sure, you can make a CLK fast......but you could blow the doors off it with a camaro + 5-10K in aftermarket equipment. The camaro has always been the "best bang for the buck" car on earth. $22K plus a $5K blower gets you a car that runs low 12's. They can be made to get traction very easily, and the aftermarket parts for them are cheap in comparison to performance Benz parts.

I dont want it to sound like I am in favor of owning an american v8 car.......I just sold my LS1 camaro to get my 2000 clk. I enjoyed the camaro for what it was, a cheap hot rod.

Its' true, Alot of american cars has great hp consider how much they are selling at. And consider how much CLks are sold at, even the 320 ones, are alot more expensive than alot of american muscle cars. CLk is a combination of luxury and sport. American muscles cars are pure power, and cheap to play around with.
