What is this and why is it clicking?

What is this and why is it clicking?
Can anyone tell me what this part is. It seems to be a small solenoid valve of some kind, and it is clicking rapidly. Location is directly in front of the washer tank, or just behind the LH headlight.

Mine always has, quite loud at idle. From the research I've done, it's normal. Quite loud, I can hear mine from in the cabin.

CLK55 and CLS55
Its function is to create a vacuum in the gas tank and fuel line system so that fume is sucked into the engine to burn instead of venting to the outside atmosphere and ticking sound is normal

you can clean it. If you do it will not be as loud untill it gets dirty again.
