The round port that is shown is a 32 pin diagnostic port used with Star diagnostic hardware. In the US models that port is 1 of 2 ports that are used for obdii. The other is located under the dashboard beneath the steering wheel.

Are you having problems with the car - one only needs to read codes if there is a problem.

the MB with OBDI is 38 pins, not 32. something tells me you are old bimmer driver, they got 32 pins J.

And the OBD II has 16 pins located under dash drivers side I know that, but that's only the US models, since they made it by law to be like that.
OBDII is preferred actually but it doesn't change anything.
Got the WIS/DAS Star yes..

and to answer my question, twist and turn and voila open.

No problems with car/engine
adjusting and setting the engine up for my wishes!
Guys it was a simple question really and I appreciate your enthusiasm
but none of you answer my question

Anyway thank you both, I found out its done, and more adjustments coming. Like I said had it open many times, timing fuel and other variable adjustments done. ECU upgraded / TCM (Transmission control module) Kleemann Sweden.
As you can see, my 3 year ownership, far from standard ;-)

And not answering your question, are you wanting to remove the cover in the picture? Very simple, just undo the small allen key bolts.

Please be so kind as to let us know how you improved the ECU settings; I was under the impression that one had to re chip the ECU to change the mapping profiles.

Oh sorry man, my bad, my mistake for not being clear enough, my English simply sucks.
Yes was the small cover, oh with a allen key to, but of course haha.
open it with a 12 mm socket, guess easier having the allen key in the trunk.

ECU was improved by Kleeman Sweden (1566.81us dollars)
After that for the test I had a chip tuning guy over just to see if there was anymore to gain, he came he plugged in and I still hate myselfe for not paying attention to Software/Wiring tools. took aprox 56 min total for him to download the file and he was still able to gain aprox 13HP.
not much for a 626.72us dollars thus dropped it.
Kleeman installed headers, the final and last set they had available i stock, thats Europe not sure if is possible.

there is a lot of talk about this issue, and I can say I had contact with Kleemann Denmark first who told me to forget it, their attitude was enough for me to move on to Kleemann Sweden, they don't judge you old/new car, same treatment nor AMG up here they do it really well.

Anyway they took out the ECU had it open op and well is how is done, should be possible to download and remap your ECU yourself!
Download org file save it and stored it good.
And then there is the software/hardware, for a OBDI car like mine is a pain in the butt. I had success with only 1 software the multiplexer
CarSoft 7.4 worked, on some modules not all, you can get it to work but is a hazzle, you can access the various modules by connection through the pins as on the added picture.
Live feed works tough and very good to diagnose fuel and other driving variables.

It can be done, but right now there is so much fake software/hardware out there it is total jungle!

Wow, appreciate the detailed reply. Certainly seems expensive for the limited increase in power. Have seen guys on these forums who just put a supercharger (one used on the c32 compressors) on these 320 engines which then punches out just as many kw as a N/A 55 AMG.

Never driven a BMW in my life. On the other hand you are completely right about the number of pins. I have no idea why I put 32 in my original response. I guess there is a pretty large difference in diagnostics between either side of the pond. None the less seems as though You got this squared away. Good looking 208 you have there!
