Metalized tint vs regular tint

I just picked up my 2001 CLK 430 last week. The tint it came with looks absolutely horrific. Although, no bubbles it looks sort of purple in the sunlite. My question is, what are the known facts about using metalized tint. Does it affect radio reception, radar dedectors etc. And do I really need to smooth out the rubber so my tints do not get scratched or is that a myth. Lastly, the tint company is replacing this under warranty and the smoke metalized 35% tint looks really nice.

I only had the car for a few days so I do not know strong the signals on the benz radios are. Also, I was told when removing the tint, we do not have to worry about the rear defroster becasuse it is inside of the rear window as opposed to on top of the glass. Is this true??

I have a titanium composite in my tint... i dont' notice any degredation in my radio reception or in my radar reception...

in theory, the tint would effect the radar... radio reception, i haven't had any issues with my present & past tinted vehicles... all had the antenna on the glass...

if your tint looks purple, its probably a cheap aluminum composite tint... with those tints, after you wash it with windex a few times, the amonia changes the color of the tint to purple...

tintanium based tints are more resistant towards such color changes, but i use a amonia free glass cleaner... works just as well, without the worries of purple tints

sorry bro... thats not true.... the defroster lines on the CLK are like any other car... its on the inside of the car, but not INSIDE the glass...

if you just use force to pull off the tint, you'll risk pulling off the defroster lines... so don't do that...

there is a specific way to remove the rear tint

yup... thats no myth... its true

just keep the windows clean, then you'll minimize the scratches... its not VERY obvious, at least not on my car...

nah nah... you are mistaken young grasshopper...

the module on top of the roof is the GPS antenna for TeleAid/SOS/Nav/etc...

the radio antenna is on the glass... i think it runs along the top of the glass, above the defroster lines... there should be a few horizontal & vertical lines...

you can get your windows lined with felt which will elimate the sratching of the windows. I had that done with my windows for peace of mind. If you want to read up on tinting you can go to tintdude.com

I am the Manager at a local Car Audio/Performance store, and we have been tinting windows since the late 80's...We haven't had any complaints or problems with reception after tinting any vehicles yet...BTW, LLUMAR film is the best! That is what we use and nothing has worked better so far...

As far as the removing of the tint on the rear window, we have this machine we call "the steamer"...It is similar to a steamer used to blow hot steam on clothes...It blows hot steam on the inside of the window and melts the glue, making it alot easier to remove the tint...You blow the steam on the glass where you are pulling the tint as you pull it back...On some cars, it helps get most of the glue, where on some, if the tint has broken down over time(purple), it comes off in small pieces, and layers, which REALLY SUCKS! Sometimes we can spend up to 3 hours just on the back window!

Thanks, just had the old *** purple tint removed, they did come with a lifetime warrany so they are replacing it for free. Have to wait until warranty goes thru. BUt the car actually looks really classy with the sort of blue hue to the windows. Maybe I will just leave it like that, but if not I will go with your suggestion.
