W208 Rear Side Window Regulator - Cable fix?

Hi all! The plastic pieces holding the cable broke apart on my window regulator. The car is 2003 (but w208) CLK320.

I see many posts on removing and replacing the window regulator but I wondered if anyone has come up wth a solution for repairing the cable itself. When I look online it seems you have to buy the regulator and motor for ~$500 new and ~$250 used. That seems crazy since the mechanics and motor are fine. Any help would be appreciated.

For reference here is a used regulator on ebay:

There are "some" in stock at >$500 for a 2002 W208. The part that broke is a small plastic piece that shouldn't be more than $20. (see pic) I was thinking that someone ingenious came up with a more thrifty solution.

I'll raise this from the dead in hopes it had an easy solution. I also have this problem and the rear driver's side window only goes up half way because of that same broken plastic piece.

I've look online and searched and only find the w209 repair kits. Nothing for a 208. Anyone found a solution?

My "fix" of a plastic cover, super glue, hopes, and dreams did not work. It's broken again. The top part has come apart and while the window goes up, the plastic piece is crooked and gets stuck on the guide bridge across the rail. Has anyone found a solution to the plastic guide?

legok, I will be dealing with this same issue in the next week or two, I will post of my experiences. Supposedly there is a place here in town that has had luck repairing these rear side window regulators with new cables and plastic pieces. When I get my car disassembled enough to remove the side window mechanism, I will report back with my findings. I also am kind of surprized that nobody else has come up with an affordable aftermarket solution to this common problem plaguing these cars.

Any luck? Were you able to get it fixed at all? I have a buddy that has a 3D printer and I was thinking and making something that could go around the plastic guide and then keep the cables in place. I may give it a shot in the next few weeks.

I'm embarrassed to report that i haven't done a thing to the car in 6 months. It's just been sitting in the garage, hooked to a battery tender, The summertime temps here are a total buzzkill for working on anything outdoors, so the car is parked until cooler temps prevail. I would be interested to see whatever you come up with, regarding this issue, so please do keep in touch.

Any solution

I guess I have the same problem as the window went with a bang and now only goes halfway up, did anyone come up with a working solution other than replace the whole mechanism?
Same subject but different question, how do you get to the mechanism on a CLK cabrio?

Thanks in advance of your reply.

I have not dealt with that problem yet. But if it happens I would give JB Weld a try, usually if something like that breaks even drilling small holes and using little metal pins made from say small nails or what ever and then using an epoxy to hold it all together will work. Just an idea to try. I'd like to see a picture of how it breaks.
