Schematic Question

I have the schematics for all wiring in the CLK series.
I have found my VSS wires on the schematics. My problem is I'm not sure of the coloring due to the naming convention used by MB.
I have the wires colors for the left side are listed as "WS" and the other wire is "WS/GE"
The right side wires are listed as SW/GE and the other is listed as SW
I have a few guesses as to what they might be saying but I don't want to take a chance and blow up my command with the wrong wire. There is already a GR there is also a GN designation.
Anyone know
Here is my guess for the rear left side WS = White Stripe
Here is my guess for rear left side WS/GE White Stripe/Grey
I see a wire color listed as GN/VI = Green/Violet if so what the heck is GR? Grey? if so what the heck is GE?
Why do they make this so cryptic?
Anyone want to compare. Or better yet tell me what color the VSS wire is on the driverside that runs from the rear axle.
Thanks

VSS wire

I looked on my VSS schematics and came to the conclusion that the driver side wire is is green/violet and the passenger side is green/black...As I was doing my retrofit, I decided to tap the wire on the passenger side but found that both the green/black and green/violet wires can both be found in a blue Molex in the kick panel in front of the sill plate. The green/black was connected to another wire; however, the green/violet was not. I decided to tap the green/violet and everything is working fine...not exactly what you asked....but hope it helps.

They are abbreviations of the German words for the colours, unsuprisingly since the diagrams were probably drawn by a German speaker.
Some of the MB circuit diagrams have english abbreviatons, so here is a table

German English English
Abbrev Abbrev Word
---------------------------------------
BL BU Blue
BR BN Brown
GE YE Yellow
GN GN Green
GR GY Grey
NF TR Neutral/Translucent
RS PK Pink
RT RD Red
SW BK Black
VI VT Violet
WS WH White

My german is rubbish, so I havent put the german words in ...

Where you get WS/SW, it means main colour is white with a black stripe.

Occasionally you get WS/SW/GE . which means main colour white. black stripe (down length of wire), Yellow marks across wire at regular intervals

Yes, you should have...

....the same wire. The schematics that I used are applicable for all 208's 1997 and up.

Also...it is the front sensor.

I'm going to reroute some wires now

I see the green/violet designation on my schematics
I'm going to use that instead of the rear.

GR GY Grey - GRAU
NF TR Neutral/Translucent - NEUTRAL
(NOTE:I don't understand the F in NF)

RS PK Pink - ROSA
RT RD Red - ROT
SW BK Black - SCHWARZ
VI VT Violet - VIOLET
WS WH White - WEISS

Mine is exactly the opposite.
Green Black is connected and Green violet is not?

Passenger Side....

....the green/black is connected....green/violet is not. Driver side might be just the opposite....either wire will work. Just tap the wire that is not connected.

John sent this to me....

....and it was helpful in verification:

Now the VSS wire. I used a black/green wire. Look at the picture I enclosed, I found 2 black/green wires that were soldered and covered with grey nylon sleeve. I simply removed the grey nylon sleeve and inserted a black wire( that goes to the PIN 6 on C2 plug), put back the grey nylon sleeve and use heat shrink tube to tighten up. I am not quite sure if the CLK use the same color coded wire. Here is the way I verify the right wire. The VSS wire has a (-) negative polarity. To test this, use a voltage meter( from Radio Shack), put (+) positive to PIN 4 socketA and (-) negative to the suspected VSS wire. Do this when the car is parked and not started. You should get a + 12 V reading. Next part is a little tricky; have everything the same but start your car and you will notice the reading is dropped to nearly 0. This reading will change if you start to move your car forward( DON'T TAKE OFF!) but wouldn't go to 12V. The black/green wire is from the rear axle and the green/white is from the front axle.

sorry to bring up this thread again but i'm having problems with the vss wire.

i went to the passenger side kick panel and found a blue thing. it had a couple of wires in it

two being green/black and green/violet (neither wire is connected to anything) i tried tapping both but the thing is both always have a voltage of 12.5 and when i was going like 5kmph it would show me going 50+ on the avic-n1.

any suggestions?
