Mercedes 2002 CLK 430 electrical problem (seat, trunk release)
Hi all,
2002 CLK 430.
Left hand driver’s side Electric seat (forward and backward switch ONLY), electric trunk release on center console, trunk “push button lock” all stopped working after my son replaced the passenger tail light assembly.
Seat was working that morning. Previously had a problem with that same seat button Two years ago. Was a blown fuse in the trunk fuse box. I had just finished shampooing the carpets, so I know the back/forward motor was working fine that morning.
Note: other driver side seat buttons (door mounted) work fine. AND I can hear a “click” down by the seat bottom when I move the seat button on the door. No back / forth seat movement though.
Trunk now requires the metal key to open, AND, it will occasionally unlatch within 10 seconds of closing the trunk, but only occasionally. Push the lock now not working.
The left hand seat fuses under the hood are not blown. The left hand seat fuses in the trunk are not blown. I don’t know where the fuse for the trunk latch is located.
‘’Possibilities:
(1) My son shorted out something while replacing the triple tail light bulb holder. Some unknown fuse is blown.
(2) loose change fell into and is stuck in the seat track, causing the seat motor to jam. Remove seat and clear track
(3) Seat motor died. R&R.
(4) Gremlins
I have a new seat motor, but being lazy, am avoiding pulling the seat, disassembling it to change the motor, etc.
Any idea?
Thanks.
John
Torx socket, 3/8 flex joint, extension and 3/8 ratchet. First motor removed on this one to get access to the second one (forward/Reverse)
The guilty engine.
How the seat was stuck.
Here is the car. My son (now 22) re-built it with me. Wrapped the inside, new leather, wheels, etc. Rebuilt the tranny and complete suspension all around. 160k miles.
Got him a new steering wheel for his birthday.
Typical engineering student car - tackle box full of electronic parts.
Was working until Jackson (son) changed out the passenger tail light fixture (lense, bulb holder, bulbs).
Electric trunk unlock now not working, requires metal key (insert, turn).
Question: is the trunk latch unlock electric or vacuum?
Could he have pinched a wire or vacuum hose?
Any idea where the fuse(s) might be?
Thanks,
- John
