Used transmission.

Hi all,
happy Thanksgiving to everyone, I finally hit 253,000 miles on my original transmission ( 2001 clk320 convertible). It’s slipping and making noises. Going to buy one from the junkyard. Do you know if it needs to be calibrated or not ? Or just plug and play and start driving ?
thank you.

If you are willing to take a chance on a junkyard transmission ensure that all six digits of the transmission code match. For example 722.634. the last digits indicate the different build configurations of the transmission. 722.6 transmission can be installed behind a four-cylinder or behind an m113 AMG v8. They will have different numbers of friction discs and steel discs. If you buy one from a four-cylinder and put it in your car there's a good chance it will just start slipping again. You will learn more if you find the ATSG transmission manual online and learn a bit more about the various build configurations of the 722.6 transmission. The transmission code is stamped on a flat area on the lower side of your transmission. You can also run a VIN decoder on your car and it will tell you which transmission is in your car.
If the transmission is the same it should just be plug and play.

Thank you so much for replying back, as a matter fact, on Monday morning, I am heading to my friend shop who has a lift and we are going to get the number of the transmission because when I called the junkyard, they told me I have to have that exact number in order to work. I’m assuming from your reply, as long as all the number matches , no programming is needed. Just install it, change the oil. Am I correct ?
