1999 Brabus CLK6.1
Brabus CLK 61 Sad Day

I am the original owner of this 99 Brabus CLK 6.1. Last weekend during a heavy rain down pour I avoided a collision with a coyote and I hydroplaned and hit a curb. This is a CARB certified California car that is extremely rare and I am not sure what to do. Please see attached photos and give me your advise. The body is in great shape minus the bumper. I was going to have the interior redone this spring and start taking it to car shows again. I did take it to car shows in the past and it was fun seeing car enthusiast taking photos of my car and I wanted to start doing that again. I always had to open the hood to let everyone know it is a real Brabus. Looking forward to some good feedback

Sorry to hear. Part it out.

With the wrecked exterior, hazy headlamps and beaten interior, it’s not worth much as is. Sadly.

Fix it! Hazy headlamps??? That's just a few bucks with a polish kit, not a reason to part out a car. And ripped seats are inexpensive to fix, just swap in used seats from a different CLK or have a shop fix them for a few hundred bucks. It's a super rare, special car that can be fixed. Of course you won't make money fixing it, it will cost more to fix than the increase in value, but you don't own a rare expensive Mercedes because you want to save a few dollars. Spend a couple thousand dollars and fix it, take it to car shows, people will be impressed, and driving that engine should put a big smile on your face. Don't worry about the ripped seats, nobody cares about the interior of a 1999 Mercedes, restored or not. Put car seat covers on if you want to, it's a 24 year old car. Nobody is going to notice because the hood will be open and OMG it's a 6.1 Brabus! Keep it out of the junkyard. It's special because of the engine and wheels, don't worry about the cosmetics like paint, leather, stereo, etc etc.

I vote it should be fixed. Anyone with the means to buy a Brabus 6.1 brand new was probably not too worried about depreciation and knew this was more an investment of the heart than of the bottom line. Also how many one owner cars like this can there possibly still be after nearly 25 years.? It's a rare and unique vehicle that deserves to be saved (even if by somebody else) and not just parted out.

I vote to repair your car, and keep it on the road. Personally I've never heard of a 6.1 so that entails to me that your car is very rare and should be restored as such. Just my opinion.

New front bumper and re-do the rear suspension, should be easy. The rear suspension probably needs to be refreshed anyways, I just did the rear arms in my garage this weekend, it can be a DIY job, not too hard.
