help with 430...armored or not?

Hi guys...I´m from Brazil....nice to meet you..

Well....I want to buy a CLK 430 (99 or 2000) but I´m in doubt if I should buy one with armor or not..

After some days wondering about it, I´ve decided that an amored one would be a nice idea.....BUT..

what about speed, aceleration and other performance ( 60 - 0 mph, for example) specs?

does they change a lot?
Will the CLK became much slower because of the armor?

thanks a lot!

Expect to add about 1-2 seconds to your 0-60 acceleration time depending on the type/weight of the armor. You'll probably want to upgrade your brakes as well.

So...talking about a Level 3 armor (about 200 kg heavier) I could expect something about 7 or 8 seconds when talking about 0-60.....

And A brembo convertion to solve the problem...

thanks a lot!

Yeah, a level three armor will definitely slow it down considerably (but it should also stop a .44 caliber projectile). Just figure that for every 100 pounds of excess weight, you lose about 10 horses. A brembo conversion will definitely regain the lost stopping power. Since you're dealing with a heavier car, you'll probably want to upgrade the shocks and springs to stiffer ones, and you'd also benefit from thicker sway bars (OEM CLK 55 ones are the only ones I know about).

If you can afford it, I would recomend purchasing a CLK55 and adding
level 3 bomb protection to it. That way it already has a stiffer suspention
along with brakes and what not. Once the additional weight is added on,
your performance will be about the same as a 430, and might just be
a cheaper way to go.

Hello !

Thank you a lot !!

But...I´m afraid I can´t pay a CLK 55 AMG (I would LOVE to...but it´s too expensive for me...)

....Reading the answers above, I am in doubt now about the shocks and springs ....

In fact, I want to put 19" wheels and lower it....using EIBACH springs....
Do you think it´s possible with the armor?
What sugestion of solutions do you have for that? A CLK with 19" wheels and 2 or 3 cm lower...

Thanks again..

cool!

What's it cost to armor your car?

What happens when I shot it...does it bounce off like in the cartoons or does the body absorb the projectile? What about the windows?

The coolest question has to be....why do "you" need it? Come-on I gotta know....big time politician or rapper or drug dealer?....but they all have drivers and could afford a 55. Hummmm??????

auhauhauhaa!!! well, as far as I know...the body "absorb" de projectile....and the windows are changed as well....

...about "why do I need.." actually I´m not a rapper, not a politician and I´m not a drug dealer... =)

I´m just afraid of those "flash kidnapping" that happens here or even the traditional ones.... I have never owned a car of this level (BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc..) And I´m a bit afraid of violence.....afraid but not mad about it...
so that´s why I´m in doubt....
Do you think the dark window (rear and side windows) would avoid this kind of thing?

thanks again!

well...about the cost.. I intend to buy a used car...so
imagine that a 430 (99) cost R$ 130.000 (aprox. US$40.000)
the same CLK armored level 3 goes for R$ 150.000 (aprox. US$45.000)

If you are worried about being kidnapped, then there is a pretty
easy solution for that. First off I would get the armor. Make sure
they change all the glass, to tripple pane. Second off get dark
tint. Third, do a search on ebay for one of those military surplus
roof mount machine guns. Put that right behind the sunroof and
everyone will know you mean business. :v J/K on the gun,
but I say $5K US is a cheap price to pay for security.
