oh yeah i saw that lil tid bit on the elevator going to work the other day. makes me nervous about my lemon. its strange that mercedes has such a big status impact and shock value in our social lives, but they made such a poor production line recently.

This is what I got:

Mercedes-Benz Recalls 1.3 Million Cars 1/04/05

The largest single recall in its history will be launched soon by Mercedes-Benz, just as the company is trying to right quality problems that have dragged down its performance. DaimlerChrysler says it will recall about 1.3 million vehicles because of problems with voltage regulators, battery-control software, and braking systems. The recall includes Benz vehicles outfitted with gas V-6 and V-8 engines, manufactured between June 2001 and November 2004, according to wire reports, as well as some E-Class and CLS-Class cars built between January 2002 and January of this year, and E-Class, CLS-Class, and SL-Class cars built from June 2001 through January 2005. Several hundred thousand vehicles sold in the U.S. are included in the recall; a spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal that no accidents, nor any injuries, had resulted from the problems.

not exactly safe....for example it says benz vehicles built between june 01 and nov 04 my car was built in feb 04 and has a v6 engine so i could have a problem along with a few others on this board with an 03 or 04 clk w209

Red face I suspect that the CLK's are safe...

At least in regards to any brake recalls. All of the cars listed in the recalls, the E, CLS, and SL all use the electroinc brake system whereas the CLK's use conventional hydraulics. I don't know about the rest, but I imagine that we would have received recall notices if our vehicles were effected. This whole fiasco with Mercedes Benz's faltering reputation really bites for all of the obvious reasons, but also because while it really doesn't effect our cars, we're still suffering all of the jibes and baner about Mercedes Benz's problems. It seems like every time someone mentions that I have a Benz, the first comment people make is some snide remark about Benz's reliability issues...

Here's how it affects all of us...

I have been trying to fix all those little annoying problems that everyone has complained about in this forum, including some that haven't been discussed, but that's not the problem. (Hummm, I guess I should add that I've been to the dealer 7 times in 5 months, and that's not quality!!! The list of querks just goes on and one and now the potential of some form of a major recall)

Try reselling your vehicle, at least as a trade and nobody wants any part of these cars! I spent $56,000+ for my 05 CLK500, 8700 miles and they are hard pressed to even give me $42,000! That's not just in NJ but also in neigboring NY!!!

Wholesalers just don't want the cars. The CLK's have gone from the very top of the resale market to the very bottom in a years time! Edmonds had CLK's listed as the highest value with Mini Cooper a very close second. Now they don't want'em!

What you are saying is very sad but true. The W208 CLK's were very well built and had more of a masculine look where the new W209's are not a solid and look more femine, hence the lousy resale.

i think my MY2005 W209 320 needs to be recalled, I have had it for 2.5mnths and it has been to the shop 6 times, all for the same problem. I have 1466 miles on it and I have put about 2500 miles on loaner cars.

I called my dealer and he said the W209 is not involved with this recall.
I hope he's right.
