Comand Nav In Aussie Regional Areas

Hi does anyone have the COMAND NAV in a CLK 280,350 (2006 model) and live in a regional area of Aussie. I have just heard that the maps are not that good outside the city can anyone advise on this. If you are reading this "Froggy" how is it for Sydney street does it show all the tiny streets as well.

Map resolution goes down to 50metres, it doesn't show up all the street names on the map, but navigation instruction is accurate and quick enough. Works well in conjunction with the in dash display which will display individual street names.

All little streets, even some back streets showed up. At least in Sydney.

Highlights all the Merc showrooms and service centres. All shopping areas and places of interest.

I have not driven the car out of Sydney yet, so I am not sure how it will perform in the rural areas.

2 DVDs cover the whole Australia. One for the Eastern seaboard, and one on the other.

I have heard that there is an update disc due in Nov/Dec.At the moment in my local area it just shows major roads and not the streets here's hoping the new discs will change this, the comand nav's in the E class are different to CLK which has the same as the C Class comand system.

By the way can you play DVD's in your Comand Froggy

If you get a copy of the E-class 2.1 map and rename all of the DB files to match the ones of the same size in the C-Class map then you can have the same quality map on a CLK as an E-Class has.

I know a couple of people that did it and they say that the 2.1 version modified for C-Class is a winner compared to the current 1.0 version for C-Class.

It is also a lottery as to whether your CLK head unit likes the burned disks.

The DVD command will only play the DVD Nav disc, and CD music. I think it will take DVD music. But definitely cannot play DVD video or mp3. The CD stacker can play mp3, so don't bother with the ipod intergration kit. I wonder if an external DVD video player can be added onto the system to play video.

No problem. Add TV tuner and then install DVD player and DIVX player on top of that.

Order the parts from Steve and have them installed locally by a team of trained professionals.

Personally it always cracks me up that people want to see the names of the streets they dont even want to visit. But I do agree that it is nice to be able to see the lines of streets that do exist even if they dont have names.

Version 12 CD is coming out any day now. That is the only upgrade around.
