I cracked my front bumper any suggestions on replacement?

I was driving behind this suv and there was this cone in the middle of the lane. By the time I saw the cone it was too late and I ran over it. My bumper is now cracked and I need a replacement. Do you guys have any recommnedations on what kind I should get and where should I get it from? I don't know if I want to replace it with an original one or go with a brabus, carlsson, or kleeman. Price is an issue so i would go for the cheapest one even if it's used. If anyone knows where I can get a good deal please let me know or if anyone has one they want to sell.

I was going to buy that Brabus bumper, until I examined the pics very closely. That bumper is the first run of kits that Brabus made for the W209 and they made the first run bumpers out of fiberglass. After many issues and problems, they finally did what they should have done in the first place and made it out of poly-urth. Im not trying to ruin that guys sale, but I just wanted to let you know that it is the first run bumper, hence the reason I didnt swoop on it.

Red face I cracked mine as well...

But I cracked mine when I bottomed out pulling out of my brothers driveway. I wound up replacing it with a Brabus K8 front bumper cover, but now I regret it for several reasons. First and foremost, the bottom of the K8 cover sits a little bit higher than the stock AMG side sills. It's not really noticeable at first, but now that I've noticed it I can't see past it. I'd say that it's maybe an inch and a half higher. I'm pretty sure that the optional carbon fiber splitter for the K8 cover would even out the difference, but it's $1200, and to be honest I'm thinking that I'll eventually return it to stock. The other reget is the fact that I regret going the Brabus route. Brabus items are expensive, and truth be told I just can't afford the brabus 6.1 engine upgrade, and I don't feel as if I have a Brabus car without it. Lastly, the K8 cover's more expensive than the factory bumper cover. If I could do it over, and as I mentioned before I may, I'll go with the 06 AMG piece. I think it looks more aggressive than the 03-05 piece, and I'd like to stick with AMG from now on...

Anyway, it's something that you might want to consider...

Best regards,
Matt

Or you could actually try supporting the forums and asking one of our various sponsors such as Euroteck Motorsports.

MikeL, thanks a lot for letting me know about that. I was seriously considering buying it. AMG///Merc thanks for your response, too.I'm pretty sure I want to stick with the AMG bumper, i just need to find a cheap one. The crack isn't too bad, and isn't noticable unless you're 5 feet from the car so I'm looking for a chear replacement or none at all. I'd love to support the forum sponsors but I want to go with the best price. Money's tight because unexpected expenses like this keeps popping up.

z1co, i like that grill, where did you get it and for how much?

thanks for you responses guys.

Another option.....

...just fix it. There are several businesses that do nothing but repair today's plastic bumpers. Going price about $400 including damage repair and paint.

Thats what I would like to do, it's only about a 5 inch crack and isnt that noticable so its not a lot of damage. Problem is my mechanic doesn't do that. Anybody know of anyone in the chicago area that can do this?

Any collision repair shop can do it, or get it done. It's just a piece of flexible plastic wrapped around shock absorbing material and metal bars (the real 'bumper'). That's why it's called a bumper cover. They take the whole thing off then repair and repaint.

I know what a bumper cover is. My mechanic won't repair this crack so I asked for recommendations for other places to get it done.

How are they after driving at night for prolonged periods of time? I heard of some people complaining of headaches because of it being blue.

No problem at all. One thing you may notice is that the visibility is slightly lower if you use higher Kelvin bulbs (in comparison to the stock bixenon which is 4300K I beleive) but hey, they look good
