Black CLK500 and Pewter CLK320 *pictures* and impressions

I got a call this morning that the new CLKs were in the showroom of a local dealership (not the one I'm getting my car with), so of course I did what any red-blooded soon-to-be-owner did - and checked it out! And wouldn't you know, I brought my digi along

Below are the pictures, but let me first give my impressions. This was my first chance to actually sit in the car and spend some quality time with it. I must say that the Black 500 was gorgeous. The picture of the grill below that I took doesn't look so hot, but it looked killer in person. Black on black is a classic combo for a reason, as it was a very rich looking car. I have no problem ignoring people who are displeased with the car's styling, as I am in love with it.

The interior is very roomy. I'm 6'2'', and was able to sit in the back seat with no problems. Everything was well-made, and is in a different class than the 208's interior.

Now onto the Pewter. I won't deny it - it looked good. I still would choose Silver hands down if I had the choice again, but people who have ordered it will [i]not[i] be disappointed. From some angles, its like a slightly darker silver. From others, its got a "cream" look to it. I took a picture of it next to a Silver C-Class so you can see what I mean.

Enjoy the pictures, and I'd be glad to answer any questions.

- Mike

Pewter is a great color, Brilliant Silver is nice as well but like every Benz I see is Brilliant Silver, or black......a new silver is definitely a welcome addition.

Good pics, likuidM5
Now you can take a very good look at CLK in show room.
Is the black one "Elegence" w/AMG style ?

There is no "Elegence" or "Avant Guard" here in the US.. but yes, the Black 500 had the AMG body kit, as well as the wood interior.

LiquidM5, do you think the Pewter will look good with the charcoal interior?

likuidM5, nice pics!

I was wondering what your thoughts are on the use of plastics on the interior of the car. Also, is there an improvement in the quality of switchs on the dash?

It seems the clk is in the showrooms on the east coast, but hear in the west I can't seem to find a dealer that is showing them.

This isn't addressed to me, but I'll give my opinion.....it looks fantastic. I looked at a C320 in Pewter with a Charcoal interior and was very impressed, looked very classy. As such, we ordered our E500 in Pewter with Charcoal.

It will look great, stick with the combo. Pewter is a nice alternative to Brilliant Silver, while a bit darker (it will still be extremely easy to maintain).

I ordered a 500 in pewter with charcoal. I've ordered the walnut trim, but thinking about going with aluminum. Anyone seen this combo?

Haven't seen it, but personally I would stick with the Walnut trim.....Pewter is a very rich looking color and think that the Walnut would be better suited rather than aluminum against the Pewter paint (and I like aluminum trim). Also, since the Pewter is a darker silver and Aluminum is a lighter silver, the two "may" clash a bit.

Its kind of like changing your answers on a test......in most cases, its proven that you should stick with your first choice.

The one that I saw had a charcoal interior, and yes - charcoal is the best looking interior for the new CLKs.

I think that if you get a charcoal or 2-tone interior, you're set. I didn't think the interior felt 'plasticky' whatsoever. Its soooo much nicer than the 208's interior, I can't begin to tell you.

The only interiors that look cheap are the light-colored ones (ash and "tan?")

Beltfed,

Thanks for your input. That was my thought, also. I thing the aluminum would look best with black or silver. Just curious if anyone had seen it. Thanks again.

I haven't seen a silver or pweter CLK yet.

Color to avoid:
I usually love white (specially on the 3 series/M3!!!) but not on the w209 CLK. Its look cheap!!! from any angle... definitely a color to avoid.

W209 look small:
I don't see that at all. Maybe is not as aggresive as the w208 but I was shocked when a w209 CLK500 seating next to a w208 CLK55. Suddenly the new CLK looked nicer and the w208 body look so out dated.

my 2 cents
