I think it's a Lotus Elise (sp) not Esprit.
In fact I saw a yellow one in Irvine CA the other day, that thing is loud!

Tacky Tacky

Wow, that distronic required plastic covered star on the CLK's grill sure looks tacky. There must be some way to remedy it and still keep distronic???

I loved the original Elise but the heavily updated version above is so much more agressive, especially in red.

I also love the much rarer Lotus Exige that looks even better,if that's possible!!

hhehehe maybe Shine don't have a distronic, but an electronic zapper hidden behind the star cover. When someone on the left lane not willing to move out of the way, the cover slides open the the electric zapper gun comes out shooting that idiot infront to cause an electro-magnectic interference with the car's electrical system which shuts the car's engine.

Yes, doable. there're a lot of wannabes like to trade mine
with their stock grill here.

Regarding that spicy one

If you're taller than 6' , it would be hard to sit in, I climb in
then found the interior quite "simple" for such a fun car.
Steeringwheel, a few meters,manual shifter.... that's it.
Don't drive it in a hot day, I don't mention any air conditioner
equipped.
Forget the luxury, it's a damn track killer !

The Elise is not available in the states because they can't pass US DOT mandated crash testing (it weighs about the same as a CART race car). I have seen a couple running however around without plates on temporary tags, but I have no idea of how they do this. Probably taking advantage of the fact that most cops don't know that it isn't street legal.

Cheers, BT

Sun International in Manhattan Beach, CA will fit your Elise with a Honda VTEC engine. That presumably makes it smog legal but they don't mention the crash test issue on their web site. You still have to buy and import your own Elise. Sounds pretty complicated, and they quote a price for importation and conversion of about $55,000. Still, what's $55K to be the only guy on your block to drive a Lotus Elise.

The car is perhaps one of the best small track cars available. However, it's a third car for sure. You won't be able to live with the interior and build quality on the street. It's built to be light (thus so spartan).

we don´t have so much lotus elise driving around here but there are some Opel Speedster which share the same platform. both are very interesting cars but they are way too hard, uncomfortable and have no trunk-space. these car´s are not do drive everyday.

Um...the new z350 looks like a glorified Toyota MR2 Spyder, which is not a good thing.
