rough idle (almost stall) after replacing air filters
i just recently changed the engine air filters after 55k miles.
The car has a rough idle at times and the rpms seems low for idle (600rpms).
Is the car just adjusting to the new filters ( the old ones were really bad with bugs and dirt )?
Or, the only other possibility is that i didnt attach the cover properly. The round air hole in the back of the engine bay is hard to line up.
anyone else have this happen after an air filter replacement?

I've replaced my air filters with Green Filters and haven't had a problem. I don't think they're adjusting to anything. I would take it off and try to align it properly.
You didn't replace them with K&N filters did you?

just tried aligning again. same problem
is the filter cover supposed to be a perfect fit? Mine has the same receding gap size on each side.
just used oem filters from dealer

The last time I saw this on an M113, the seal between the MAF and air clearner had a huge gap. Without removing anything, run your fingers around the MAF. Do you feel a gap? If so, push the air cleaner down.
If the problem went away when the OEM filters were installed, then the K&N have a lousy seal.

sorry i cant go out and take a look because the 550 is different from the 500, but as i remember it did fit perfectly. First i would line up the big intake, then pound down the sides on the snaps with a fist. I hope that helps.

Take a look through this. It should be very similar on your car.

The seating is quite important.

WORKED LIKE A CHARM!! NO ISSUES at all!!
I pulled the cover off and hopelessly just attached it back after a quick visual inspection.
Must have been that final cover pull that made the difference.
I havent posted in reply for a while cuz i didnt want to jincs(sp?) myself.
