comand ariel for 320 cab
hi all just joined the site, been lurking for a while.
I Have just sold my 1998 c180 (faultless over 5 years) and bought a 320 cabriolet 2003 model. All is great with the car but i have found the radio does not work properly, like the ariel is disconnected? all other features are fine. Does anyone know where the ariel sockets are, how to get to them so i can check. it look like it has an ariel in the windscreen but not sure if thats what it is. any help would be appreciated
thanks
Chris

Welcome to the forum. Please use the UserCP ^^^ to include something about your car details, location etc.
You have posted this in the W209 forum but I wonder if you have a W208, as I thought that the W209.4 cab was not built until 2004. Please confirm your model number.
There are four 'possible' antennae types in the car. eg, TV, GPS, telephone, radio. They all have amplifiers also.
I can give you an idea where they are all located from my WIS.

Hi There, thanks for the welcome very nice to be here, yes in the uk the w209 was supplied in 2003 its probably 1 of the first, there were a few w208's left around that made it to 2002 called the final edition. Its a lovely car (AMG kit and wheels) and only covered 37K miles since new with full recorded history, last servive was an independant last December. I will fill out the user CP and get some piccies on here soon.
My problem is the comand works well with all inputs (satnav cd & multichanger) but the radio is as if the ariels not connected (have fitted many aftermarket systems in cars before so seen this), its fuzzy and struggles to pick anything but the strongest of uk channels (Radio 1 etc) is there a fuse for the amplifier or an ariel thats breaking down, reluctant to pull the dash apart hunting hence talking here....any help would be appreciated, many thanks in advance.
all the best
Chris

Chris - OK, you've confirmed that it's an early W209.. ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Here's about all I can find about the radio antenna system for your car in the WIS. It's more complex that I had realised. All I can suggest wrt your reception problems is to check that all the connections are good. Or maybe an amp has lost it's power?

Good.
It isn't totally clear from the drawings title but you will have noted that the FM antenna & amp is up front, and the AM antenna & amp is at the rear. Might be a clue there.
