no sound from speakers

Hi

I have a 03 clk500 and just the other day while i was driving the sound from my speakers just went away. The radio seems to be working fine but there isn't any sound. I've read on here to check the fuse, but i don't know where to find the fuse for the speaker if anyone could direct me. Also after my sound went out, when i hit cd changer it tells me theres is no cd changer.

Any ideas?

I think the fuse box is under the hood. Get a bright flash light and run it over the fuses and you will be able to see which one is burnt...if that is the problem.

Check manual to be sure, but I think there are fuse locations in the trunk on the left side, and on the left of the dash (driver door must be open to access the panel).

Try wiggling fuses. I think I had to try some to fix my radio too. There should be a sheet saying which fuse does what.

I checked the manual. There are three fuse locations (assuming convertibles are the same as your car):
- Trunk, left side. Small felt covered panel about 6x9 inches. Pull from bottom
- Left of dash. Open driver's door all the way. The panel cover is a featureless hard plastic cover, but if you look at the bottom of the panel, on the right, you will see a small slot as wide as a dime. Ply up from there. That contains the paper which says where all the fuses are located.
- Engine compartment. I think it's the battery cover that has to come off

I went to garage to check the left of dash fuse box. Yup, it's there!

For me, I had a different problem if I recall correctly. The whole stereo didn't work at all until I wiggled the fuse. Not partial working like yours.

The paperwork says something like 2 or 3 fuses that are audio-related. Might be in two different locations. Might be in German to make it interesting (I forget).

does anyone know where i can find the amp for the speakers exactly??

I know its somewhere in the trunk but i dont know where exactly?

Also for the fuses, i know where the three are located just not sure which fuses are apart of the sound theres alot of fuses so it'll nice if someone could provide a fuse diagram.

Just backtracking, the day my sound went out, my tire blew out and i had to put on the spare, just wondering if i might have bumped into the amp while doing so

I thought the amp was under the front seats...

If you're not sure which fuse to try, try them all. There aren't that many. Pull one out, check up to the light to see if they are toasted, and replace.

There are some spares somewhere in the fuse containers.

My car did the same thing twice already, first time I took to dealer and they said they did a software update. This second time which was yesterday, it just came back on it's own the next morning.
Very wierd.

You will find it located behind the right-side paneling in the trunk, here:

The exact same thing happened to me this morning to my 05 C3204M, to the T.

I don't know that the system is a HK, since there are no HK badges on any of the speaker grills, but it's the unit with the disc changer in the glovebox - and hey, I guess it likely is since that is where all of the problems come from.

Anyway, I have a hard time believing that the cd changer is broken and that it is taking down the whole sound system on its own.

I am however, thinking about ripping the whole damn thing out and replacing it with an Alpine unit with an iPod USB-in if it gets anywhere near the $600 range.

Going to go fuse hunting tonight.

It happened to me too a couple of times. Dont go to the Stealer for it. In the trunk, driver side remove the fuse box cover. The fuse u need to put in and out is the biggest one ( orange color) which is located top left.
Easy peasy

The reason why the cdc doesnt appear is because the fiber optic loop is open. All the media components are connected in a fiber optic loop, so when it is open nothing works.

That makes sense, but what needs to be done to fix this?

same problem

yes my names jake i'm, new to this forum. i know how they work i wouldnt be posting if i havent stressed out all the options i've found.
1st- i tried the complete " hard reset" by discconecting the battery the proper way. then i proceeded to turn the car to on position with radio on and pulled #36,#26 in that order. still nothing. then i tried with the radio on and the sound worked for maybe a ten minute spin. as soon as i parked it and tried restarting the car still no issue same problem.

I also removed rear carpet and saw a red light on the amp on i didnt check it to see if it changed colors while the sound was one but not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I've read that it could be the cdc cd changer, i tried all the cd's they all read and when it was playing i was able to listen to cdc cd's......

So i'm stuck i would bring it to the dealer but i dont want to spend the 190+ for a service visit. just for them to say ya kid your amps bad and your headunit. when i really know it does work just not often or when it should. i am getting the screen telling me its playing track name and sound time so i'm really on a limp here some advice. Much appreciated
