Dipstick for w209

Ok...so my 2004 CLK320 is back in the shop ( Mercedes of Escondido) again for jerking transmission problems. Only has 19000 miles and , in the past, they could find nothing wrong. Car is a cherry and this is the only problem in 5 years. Took it back last week after it actually got worse...so I have a loaner and the car is on extended aftermarket warranty so I am not too worried but mostly ticked off 'cause I dont think this car with only 19K miles should be having issues but that 's another story. Probably from my days of being spoiled whlie owning a Lexus.

Anyway:

The loaner I have is a 2010 C300 and while eyeballing the engine this weekend I noticed that this engine has a dipstick and it's also located in the same spot as the rear port on the clk's which have no dipstick...so it ocurred to me that if these are similar engines ( not sure) could we not use a dipstick from the C300 ?

Hi mate.

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Especially when the car has been as good as gold to you and has such little mileage.

I think I remember reading a recent thread about tranny problems.

I think reference was made to a radiator problem that caused fluid to leak into the tranny.
Sounds most irregular, I know, but see if you can find the thread. It was that long ago.

As for the dip-stick. I'm not sure, bud.
I have the M156 engine, so I can't help you there.

I'm sure someone will help you with that question soon enough.

Hope you get your car sorted.

I don't think that the C300 engine is the same as yours...I think it's more likely a new version of the C280 engine, like my CLK350 is the new version of your CLK320 (hopefully, someone smarter than I can confirm). That said, I just changed the oil on my C320 and the idea came up to get a dipstick for it, and it would be the one that my CLK350 has(again, hopefully, someone smarter than I can confirm).

Sorry to hear this. I started the thread about the radiator problem few months back but there were a few others on this and other forums.

If that's the case then I'm sorry to hear it. If the transmission needs to be replaced, you are looking at over $7000 in repair cost. Hope you have extended warranty.

There is talk about class action lawsuit in the last post on this thread https://mbworld.org/forums/clk-class-w209/300694-vibrating-sound-rear-wheels-area.html

and for "spoiled whlie owning a Lexus" well my wife's 2004 RX330 runs with absolutely no issues and has 47k on it. My 2003 CLK320 with 32k on it already had the new radiator, trans, torque converter, turn signal socket issues, water leak to trunk, failed headrest connectors and now I hear some whining noise in the engine compartment in front of the driver towards the window. Might be power staring or hopefully just some pulley.

So yes, this Mercedes brand is not showing its best side for me.... hopefully it will not be much more.

Forgot, one of the parking rear light bulbs started to glow as if the rear fog lights were on. I did manage to get that fixed by cleaning the socket at least for now.

So there's a dipstick for the CLK350 ? Surely that will fit the 320 as they are the same engine family

On another note: got the call from the dealer yesterday. My jerking transmission issue is a faulty TCU which is not covered by the extended warranty..need to replace the box....about $1300. Mercedes ownership is wonderful.

I had the 'adaptations' cleared on my before taking in for the radiator issue and the trans felt like it was going to fall apart. Much worse then before the reset. After a few mils it came back to what it was before. It could very well be just that. Would save you a few $

On a side note, find Benz dealer mechanic that does stuff on the side. Will save you lots of $

Thanks..but already did that and it didn't work....Frankly, my real concern lies beyond this immediate problem in that I can't help but wonder what I am in for with this car. I am tempted to dump and run. In any event, this is my first and last Mercedes, that's for sure.
