Q's for those with 55K Airbox

I just received my 55K ///AMG airbox and I have a few questions for those of you who have already done the mod on their Non-Kompressor M113 engines.

1.Installation, specifically attaching it to the MAF. I searched the forums for an installation guide for this mod; the best I can find is Klinh's thread here: https://mbworld.org/forums/clk-class...clk-500-a.html . Klinh uses electrical tape to wrap half the tube on the inside and the other half on the outside, then the airbox will fit snug on the MAF. I don't doubt that this method works, but I was wondering if anybody else found an alternative solution to this problem (and if they can share).

2.Air Filters. I was thinking of getting a set of BMC or K&N air filters to go with this airbox. What filters are you guys running with? What were your experiences with them in this scenario? Would you buy them again?

3.Did you guys do any additional mods to these airboxes? For example, I heard of people dremeling out the ribs on the inside of their M113 500 airboxes in order get more air flow (I haven't opened these airboxes to see if they are in here too).
Thanks for the input!

1. Blackbenzz helped me put mines on and I was told to use permatex sealant and it fits snug on the maf. Whenever I take it to the dealer they never have a problem taking it off and just clean it up and put another layer of sealant for me. Make sure you cap off the little hose on the back side of the y-pipe.

2. I used K&N filters, but some people said the amg filters are better than the k&n filters. I cant tell much difference.

3. I'll probably dremel out the fins on the inside this weekend now that you mentioned it. I used heat shield tape on the bottom of the air boxes to keep the air cooler. I also bought the kevlar air intake hoses from the newer 550 models.

To much works, too messy plus don't you have to wait at least 30 mins for the sealant to dry before use? My suggestions is, try both ways and see what you like best.

1. You'll need to flip the Y section hose left and right, and put eletrical tape on the inside of the Y section to fit snug on the MAF.

2. I think Stock filters are fine, the K&Ns or everything else clogs up very quickly.

3. Theres nothing to dremel out, the 55k boxes has no fins! what you can do while ur box is off, PAINT it.

^oh right, you should get the kevlar tubes as mentioned.

I'm still trying to figure out if I can build new, larger tubes with fiberglass and a mold!

Thanks for the input guys
So here is my checklist:
* Use the stock MB Air Filter
* Add heat shielding tape on the bottom side of the airbox
* Paint it
* Get Kevlar tubes from a CLK550
* Get the engine cover from another ///AMG

Advans/omar26,
Do you know the part numbers for the 550 Kevlar tubes? I tried to go to parts.com and search but they had only two kinds.
1. For the 63 engines
2. For the non-63 engines
My assumption is that the 350 and 550 engines use the same air intake tubes. Is that correct?

Klinh/All,
Which ///AMG engine cover (Model/Year) did you use to match the airboxes, in order to dress up the engine bay?

I think some people used the engine cover from the 63 engine. I used the 55 engine cover and it fits w/ little modification. The tubes are 30-40ea at the dealer.

Can't wait to see your setups! I think I'll order the 55K engine cover like you guys did to cleanup the engine bay.

Advans,
On an earlier post, you said "You'll need to flip the Y section hose left and right". Just to clarify, this means put the left Y-pipe tube on the right side of the Y-pipe and put the right Y-pipe tube on the left side of the Y-pipe; "flip" the positions?
