CLK500 Upgraded with Speedtuning USA ECU
#253
Alrighty guys, went to SpeedTuning and recieved my tune. First off, Oliver was great, great service and very polite. He checked over all my main components with his OBDII scanner, engine, trans, eps, etc and made sure everything is was tip top shape. He told me it will take about 200 miles for the tune to really stand out, the computer has to relearn everything. I was getting 23mpg on the 50 mile trip up there, mostly highway and on the return trip home again mostly highway 50mile trip averaged 28.5. Overall, very satisfied with the whole deal. Cant wait to see the real results.
ALSO for the group buy, Oliver said all he needs is 10 people to pay up front. If anyone wants to join after that, there isn't a problem nor a cap on the people who can join.
But to get going he needs 10 people to pay in advance. So lets get this thing going!

I just sent this to SpeedTuningUSA:
I was thinking of joining the Group Buy from MBworld.org for CLK software upgrades.
1. My car is a 2009 CLK 550 Cabriolet. The 550 isn't listed on your site. Do you do it? What changes should I expect?
2. Will I need to remove and send in the ECU, or is the "ship the programmer" option possible for this car?

I forgot to ask if it would still pass CA smog. Does anyone know? I'll email again...
I'd really rather not take the car out of service for several days to send it in.

Yokohoma S drive speed rated Y (186mph).
I don't think I'll ever want to go that fast, 150-160 maybe.
Check this video out, these were the cars in our spirited drive : myself CLK500, GT3, 911 Turbo, GTR, A5 2.0T, BMW 335i, BMW 540 and the video guy Mustang GT Shelby.

I'm surprised that people are getting better mileage after the increase of HP. I always thought this is inversely proportional.
Also, my car has also 180K KM now. Is it worth it to apply the tune to an old car?

The car feels great after the tune. A lot more responsive. As for the gains, I don't know exactly but was quoted 24hp. I doubt I gained all of that. It's your money, if your going to have your car for a while go for it.

Before anyone asks, the key sequence for the secret "Butt Dyno" mode is as follows. With the ignition in position 3 and the transmission in D1, set the display to temp, press the reset button 3 times and put the accelerator pedal in its fully depressed position. The display will show the displacement of the seat cushion relative to the seat, in HP@SS (Horsepower @ Seat Stationary) units.

That's not the worst thing. The worst thing is your combustion timing goes out of control and kaboom engine. I guess we all trust our tuners to tune right.

This is great, you are getting 5-8% improvement in mileage. This is amazing; increased HP and better mileage.
After the tune, will the engine work harder? Any long term effects (just interested to know)?

Oliver said all the tune pretty much does is advance the timing a little and makes the fuel curve a little bit more agressive, and increases throttle response. Bigger gains will be on the V8 but on the V6 expect 12-18hp, the v8s 18-25hp. How much of that makes it to the wheels... no idea. But overall I'm happy with the tune, getting better gas mileage is always a plus.

hmm do we get to customize our tune? Like I want the tune to be for 91 octane gas. I read somewhere that someone got tuned for something higher than 91. And how far into red line will the engine go before upgearing by itself? Will ECU flash affect Touch shift feature? For example now, if I leave in first gear and floor it all the way the car will automatically shift to second when I hit redline without me manually upgearing. If I get the ECU flash will my car still automatically upgear when I hit redline without me manually upgearing?
