Is my trans. going bad or a sensor problem? Need help please!

Hey guys,

something weird happened today.

I was driving and my car seemed to be stuck in second gear.

Putting the car in Park and back to drive didnt fix it but shutting the car off and back on fixed it.

My car has 64.000 miles so im not sure if this is a common problem.

Thanks for any help!

It a 2006 model, if you haven't done the tranny flush services yet then you're 26K miles too late.

I drive the racism out of BadDebt. ;)
go to mb, get the flush then have your tranny software updated...it might just be a glitch in the software.

I believe theres an electronic plug off to the passenger side of the tranny case. That plug needs to be replaced at every trans flush. I know that if it isnt done for quite some time, that plug will actually seep, eventually leak and get the electronics wet enough to cause issues. The dealership I work at keep these things in stock and are probably half the price of the Mercedes direct dealer, if your around springfield IL. Not sure if a 2006 has it, but if it does, thats 99% of our most common issues.

I've read that a few W211 has the same problem. It turned out that the speed sensor in the transmission is faulty. The cost was something like under $500 for parts & labor. Take it to the dealer or a good MB indy shop to have the code scanned first.

DIY tranny services is very easy but I still wouldn't do it. There's much more benefit to have the dealer do these services. The don't just changed the filter and replaced the fluid like all DIY services. I found out that for the tranny to shift smooth, the pressure in the tranny body have to be within spec. and if it not, the dealer can actually reset the pressure to spec. These were explain to me by the Master Tech at the dealer when I asked the dealer to do the tranny flush because my tranny were slipping after the HPS supercharger installed. They even showed the spec. when the car came in and the after services spec. that they set it to. It shift much better after the services. There's are people that reported the tranny shift right after the DIY services.

Lots of great info guys thank you. Im taking my car to the stealer after work and see waht they have to say but at least now i have a general idea of what it might be. Drove to work today with no problems ( scared as hell though lol)

Last questions would be: Even though i have no Check engine light turned on would the dealer still be able to read faulty codes or no?

I wouldn't flush the tranny at that kind of mileage, only drain and refill.

Got a call from the dealer today

$2100 i was like HOLY ****. Problem was a valve and a bad speed sensor.
Gladly it will be covered by my third party extended warranty.

I think its worth the $4000 i paid for it. To any new owners take note.

Thanks for all the help guys i will give more details when i get a report from them and write all parts and stuff.

Also by changing that i am getting new transmission oil put in as well so i guess that helped

I will be sucked without my car for 3 days so they gave a courtesy one a 2008 C300. HATE IT lol

Ok guys just got my car back and total was $$2049.44

Run down of what they did and what the problem was:

64803 Valve body performed short test. Code in ETC 2767- the signal from sensor Y3\8N2 is not available. Remedy is to replace the electronic hydraulic unit. Replaced EHS, programmed and codes to vehicle. Cleared all codes. Fill and set fluid level. Performed transmission adaptation.

Diag Perform Diagnosis Tests - 35CPM - $124.95

70 Misc. Transmission repairs - 35CPM - $402.50

1 220-270-27-06 CTRR. UNIT E - $1250.00

1 221-277-01-95 OIL FILTER - $36.00

1 220-271-03-80 GASKET - $12.00

6 004-990-35-12 SCREW - $0.90

6 001-989-68-03-10 TRANSMISSION - $17.50

10 004-990-75-12 SCREW W COLL - $0.90

So that is PARTS :1417.40 LABOR - $527 plus all the taxes and env. fees adds up to that

I'm trying to see the parts online but cant find them all but yah you guys can a get a general idea of what your problem might be if you see the same signs.

Now gladly i can still afford to get the front lip and finally my DDM 35W fog light HID kit just came (3 weeks for shipping lmao) so i will be looking forward to tha nad post some pics as well.

Take car guys and hope this never happens to anybody in here

Im of again

I drive a CLK500 with exactly the same problem! It gets stuck in 2nd gear, putting the car in park and back to Drive didn't fix it, but shutting the car off and back on does fix it; but it happens repeatedly, and I have to stop, turn it off and back on to fix it. Also, once in a while it looses all traction while driving (goes to Neutral); same solution: stop, turn car off and back on to fix it.
Did you find a solution? Any hints on the cause of the problem?
Please help.

I feel dumb that I didn't even try shutting car off and turning back on, just drove home in 2nd, lol. Also, no one told me to tranny flush...
