secondary cats
What do you guys think about me gutting my secondary cats instead of getting rid of them all together? Has anybody else done this? The only reason I'm thinkin of doing it this way is bc it looks like nothing is done so I don't have to deal w warrenty problems

First off, as far as I know...on the CLK550, there are only resonators and no secondary cats. I'm not sure if this is true for all model years, but I know for a fact that my 07 CLK550 only had resonators and no secondary cats.
With that being said, even if your car did have secondary cats, no errors will be shown because the sensors are after the primary cats and before the secondary ones, so it won't affect it.
Just remove all of the resonators and replace with straight pipes, that's what I did and I love the growl my V8 makes now.

I'm getting my cats removed tomorrow.i was also thinking of getting rid of the resonators, but was not sure about it.i have a magnaflow on there now which is loud enough.i just dont want any droning. M-benz, what kind of muffler do you have? did it make a big difference when you removed the resonators? any droning? thanks.

That big huge piece closest to the front of the picture was my resonator i am positive about that, i had that deleted a few months ago. The two little things after my pipe bends before it turns into one pipe are my secondary cats. I had a Mercedes certified shop guy check them out and he agreed with me, either way im installing an x-pipe in their place tomorrow morning. BTW this is an 07 CLK550 as well. Sorry about the ****ty cell phone pic btw

hi man, thanks for the info, perhaps you can advise me. with what have you replaced them?? is there original spare parts I should replace with or a "simple" pipe would link everything back?? if there is pics it would be great.
btw how is the sound? does it get close of an quad exhaust or not?
thanks

You just replace them with straight pipes. Any reputable muffler shop should be able to do the job. Here is the pic and the vid. Don't mind the ugly pipes, they will be painted black soon.

hey dude really thanks for the pic, I was just searchin on youtube if there are any vids and I saw one, I thought I recognized ur car. its not the sound I had in mind, but its better than the stock sound on I guess and sure cheaper than installing a new exhaust to try to have a sound closer to an AMG.
you are really a great helper.
thanks again
