Manual Shfting no work, and burning smell?

I have been having this problem for a while.

Two weeks ago, my battery was out and after I jumed it up, the engine check ligt came up. There was no problem for driving and next day the light was gone. After that, once a while, manual shifting doesn't work and autimatic gear shifting falis as well.(I restart the engine and it works)
Plus there is smell of burning plastic somewhere under the car.

Anyone has any clue? Thanks.

So you're sometimes locked in a gear? (automatic shifting fails?).

Dude........I hope you didn't jump start the engine by connected the cable directly to your battery. That's a NO....NO on your car. The spike will cause your some electronic to go bad. These are well known problems in the past. Try disconnect the battery for at least 30 mins to see if everything will reset itself.

my friend had the same problem on the c240. He went to the Mercedes shop and they told him the new battery he put was the problem. I guess after the battery goes bad it accumulates some error codes putting the engine in "limp" mode. You will need to go to the shop and remove this codes. $60 is what it cost him.

Now i have had an issue with my car too on the shifting and had an hydraulic compartment go bad but urs sounds more like my friends situation.

Good luck man

How else are you suppose to jump start a car genious???...Cars have fuses for a reason.

Times changed and so the way they build cars changed too. Always read your user's manual. On mine, there's a box next to the battery with "RED" cover. You suppose to open that red cover and connect the positive cable to there and the negative cable to the chassis. Don't connect any cables directly to the battery terminal at all. You got to understand that Mercedes cars are very sensitive when it come to electronic. Even the side bumper lamp need to be at specific watt. or the sensor will come on. So if you jump start the car by connect directly to the battery, the voltages spike may cause the onboard electronic to go bad or cause it to created fault reading.
