2003 CLK430
Question Catalytic Converter bad

Hi all,

I bought a 2003 CLK430 last month with 79600 miles. Now it has 80500 miles and I stopped by at the MB dealer today as it was rattling where the cats are and they said that the warranty is expired and gave me a quote of $800 to replace one cat on passanger side. (I know I should have checked it when I got it but I did not know about the warranty and I just ignored the rattle)
I read lot of threads but could not get more information on a 03 clk430 model. I live in Oklahoma and I dont think they test the cats??
Please help......Let me know if you have done anything cheaper that fixed the problem and you did not loose any power or/and check engine light came on???
Thank you.

I live in Broken Arrow and I think I have only 2 cats. I am not sure if yours will fit mine but I will do some research and get back to you. (If they fits and I get them cheap, I will drive wherever you are ) Thanks.

I looked closely before posting here as this was my first post.
It says W208 upto 2002 and If I look for W209, clk430 is not included

Most of use here have removed our 2nd cats. If that is what's giving you the problem, you could always go to an exhaust shop and put straight pipes in their place.

Both?? I am not sure which one is bad. I dont know the difference.
I went to the MB dealership yesterday, the service advisor said that the passenger side cat is bad and gave me quote of $800 to replace the passenger side cat.
I also have local mechanic looked at it and said the cat is bad. He is very brilliant and going to give me a quote on monday.
I am also taking the car to the local muffler shop on monday ans see what he has to say.
Thanks.

It's probably a primary, you might not even have secondary.

Major emission control parts are covered under 8 year/80k warranty as mandated by the Feds. You may want to look into this:

http://www.epa.gov/oms/consumer/warr95fs.txt

No guarantees, but worth a shot.

I went to a muffler shop this morning. He explained me about the primary and secondary cats. The secondary were the ones rattling. He removed those and welded new pipes. He said there is no sensor at the secondary cats so the check engine light wont be a problem. $100 and its fixed.
