Oil Change

For my 2004 CLK320, I used to think that the only way to remove the oil was to suck the oil from the top.
A ex-MB technician told me that there is a "hidden" drain hole in the bottom. Is this true?

im not sure about "hiddden" there is a plastic cover under the car that you take out the clips and slide it off and there is a drain plug. how exactly did you suck the oil out from the top?? just curious

just buy the pump (around $70) and evacuate the oil from the top...clean , fast and easy.

I think that draining from the bottom is cleaner. Gravity will move all the oil out and quicker.

It's gotta remove more oil, no question. You can pull the plug and leave it for as long as you want. The pump is certainly clean and 'quick' but I'll stick with Sir Isaac Newton when it comes to oil changes.

I have been changing my oil this way for years, I don't like sucking it out from the top. To me, it seems that you'll won't be able to get all the oil out this way. But if you drain it from the bottom, gravity is your friend. Just my two cents!

I use the pump actually used it last night on my mom's S350 every time I have used it I have pulled out the exact amount of oil I put in it. After you use this method I promise you will never go back to pulling the drain plug. You get out just as much along with any of the bad things in the oil.

Do the MB service dealers in the US use the pump to evacuate the oil from the top? They don't here, they drain.

I top drain my oil changes. The gravity method is probably better, but only marginally (but you have to do the extra steps just to get the the drain plug, and you have to buy a new drain plug ring because they can't be reused).
