The wheel might be plug and play, but the paddle option might not. They might be for looks only.

I want to re-iterate, I AM NOT INTERESTED IN GUESSES no matter how deep...
so the question remains.
will the later model shift paddles work on an 05?

Only one person here that I know of has done this mod, and it was on an 07. His name is Mark Cummins and it was installed by Steve at MBenzNL. Here is the link from his install.

You original question was "does anyone know FOR A FACT if the F1 paddle style later model steering wheels are plug and play with an 05???". I could tell your FOR A FACT, it wouldn't be plug and play if you don't already have the paddle option in the car.

To answer your second question ,"will the later model shift paddles work on an 05?". Anything is possible for the right price.

i do not see how this question could have been phrased any better, and if you had glanced at my sig you would see what i am driving...

your last reply does appear to be on point, although perhaps i should put up a wiki link as to what PLUG AND PLAY means........

I know what you're driving. I posted the only relevant info on the subject. Being a douche about it isn't going to get you answers quicker.

You need to chill a little pal, if you don't get an exact answer don't get you're panties in a knot, simply thank the responder or ignore it and wait for another answer that may suit you better.

Bingo. From what I have researched, it's not plug and play, the electronics/resistance of the switches (paddles) are different. The way to go is gut the new ones and put the electronics from the existing ones inside. That may be the link you posted (internet here in Kuwait is brutal slow for opening links for some reason, times out...), there are other such articles out there. And, it's pretty easy to send an email to MB tech support in Germany and ask, that's what I did...

Question

one problem i could forsee is that the earlier models with the tiptronic wheel shifters had both up/down shift on either side of the wheel, while the newer f1 style is only right/down and left/up. this leads me to believe there is not plug+play option.

Yes, absolutely it's not plug and play on our CLK's. It can be done with a little custom fab and wiring changes. I'll have a non-AMG W209 DIY thread up in the new year.

I imagine won't be difficult. I'll be placing my wheel & shift knob order with Ivan on Monday.

Awesome! Just an FYI, you don't have to choose a steering from his site. He could make it however you want. I combined 3 different wheels to make mine.

Guys, I know Mark Cummins and I also saw his son's Clk350 when it was stock then transformed into Clk63 look alike. All works were done by Steve at MBenzNL. Btw, anyone that want to convert the paddle from the buttons, buy only the factory paddles. The spring load feel very smooth/stiff compared to the after paddles very soft that you can accidently shift up/down when you barely touch it while turning the ateering wheel.
