convertible creaks

I think the low temperature might have a play on it. I took the '05 W209 car out today (25 F) and whenever the car goes over rough or cracked terrain, the A pillar (right above the interior light and inside mirror) creaks soooo loud. I thought something was going to fall off.

Is there anything I could do? Spray WD40 on the latching mechanisms (but the sound seems to be localized around the middle of A-pillar) ??

There is a lubricant direct from Benz called Spezial-Gleitmittel, Fluid. The part number on the bottle is A 000 989 36 60. The stuff is pretty pricey but it worked on my CLK Cab for the noises you describe. Be careful not to get any excess on the rubber that touches glass or you will never get the streaks out.

Check parts.com, it's on $29 for the bottle.

Thanks guys. Another question. Do I just lube the hinges or 'spread' it across the A-pillar where the top comes into contact?

All these products (Benz, VW, Ferrari, any) are Dupont Krytox (google it you will see). So, buy whatever Krytox based product you can find for the best price. I bought a tube of GPL205 Krytox from Ebay, and the noise is gone.

Agreed that it is temperature related. Today is around 45 F and no creak.

My neighbor offers his white lithium grease for me to try. Should I? He said lube is lube ...
