You will need to remove the ecu. It is located under the hood in a black plastic box, close to the windscreen. Box-up with some bubble wrap for protection for sending in via mail, FedEX, etc. All ecus are modified and returned the same day as arrival. Ground shipping back is complementary. Prices for overnight service may vary. If you have your own freight account or can supply a return label that will all work.

Didn't you already get the controversial tune? Switching or did you not end up going with that?

I did the speedtuning tune, but I have done a few mods since then. Complete dual exhaust, 55k airbox, and Evosport pulley kit. I thought I would tune it again with a different company.

sorry for the stupid question, but how does the OE Tuning differ from a Powerchip upgrade?

Thanks!

Wes, the best thing for you to do is get a custom tune. These generic tunes are pretty much the same from company to company - a lot of them come from the same source. The speedshop I was managing in Canada was a distributer for a few different brands, we used to get the files emailed to us and flash them in, it was amazing how many were pretty much identical to each other.

I wouldn't get the tune done now though, I'd wait until late spring when the temps are averaged back out.

My $0.02

That was my original plan. Only thing is I have to find someone local to do it.

Supercharged CLK500 & ML500
I currently have the Speedtuning tune as well and I like it! But my Supercharger is going to be installed soon (with the matching Kleemann tune) and I will eventually have OETuning do a custom dyno tune for me (since they are local to me ).

I am not sure what exactly Powerchip do or don't do. I can tell you though that all OE Tuning products are developed on the dyno, logged and tested until the finished product is signed off and ready for public sale. This is to ensure performance and to garantee power gains. Otherwise there is no data to support your findings.

TTM in Long Island is an OE Tuning Dealer. This can be done there too.

Are your tunes written by OE Tuning staff/in house tuners by individually running each car separately on a dyno? If so, that is very impressive as I know several tuning companies share files and they don't really know where the actual data/tune came from.

I'd like to get some data from you regarding the 500 tune please;

1. Was the car in stock form?
2. What was the final a/f ratio on the tune (WOT)?
3. What was the tune elevation or elevation correction?
4. Ambient temperature?
5. Was there any timing advace?
6. Before and after dyno sheets?

I would like to get the above info so I can decide if this is the right tune for me, I would have to ship my ECU to you.

Thanks!

Here are the results from recent dyno tuning of a memeber's vehicle. Vehicle: W209 CLK500 with exhaust running 91CA pump gas. The performance gains shown are to the wheels on a 4x4 Dyno Dynamics dyno (a real heart breaker dyno that typically reads low in comparison with Dynojet numbers, but is very accurate for tuning). During tuning the weather was dry high 60s low 70s (just a few weeks ago). Van Nuys CA has an average elevation of 695.47 feet above sea level. The dynograph displayed shows baseline before tuning vs tuned pulls. The stock AFR (air/fuel ratio) was between 12.5-11.7@redline, and the tuned AFR was 13-12.5@redline. Timing was advanced to achieve best power. I hope this answers your questions.

You are the first tuner to actually reply to my requests for the above info - I have a lot of respect for you in that regard.

I am going to have headers & free flow exhaust with an upgraded airbox, so the final a/f might touch a point or two higher (13.1 - 13.2 maybe), that would be perfect becasue we have 93 & 95 octane pump gas here.

Obviously I'm not located in the US but I could ship my ECU to you during one of my frequent trips out of town (this would have been a good week ). How long would you need it for? I'd like to give your tune a try pal.

Yes that is right, these figures are correct when comparing Peak figures. Larger gains were seen at particular rpms. I can print out a more detailed graph that displays max gains, to post up tomorrow.
