My CLK's companions

Haven't really posted much on my other toys so figured I'd show you the cars that are neglecting and depriving my CLK from getting first dibs on mods

As you can tell I love flat motors:

Coming up once I get some time to document and load pics, my Audi Quattro coupe project.

Nice collection man
Im thinking about an EVOVIII or STI as a winter car. We got some snow here in my country, and i just love how they drive.

Thanks. Yes it would be perfect in the snow! I even went and bought Pirelli snow tires for the STi, and Blizzaks for the WRX and its just amazing. I have gone through unplowed areas during major snow storms where there must have been over 8-10" of snow on the ground and they still handled phenomenal. I could feel the snow pushing against bottom of car and still kept going, and good traction. Never been stuck, not even once.

Another plus over here in the US (not sure about overseas) is that they hold their value real well.

How would you compare the Pirelli snows to the Blizzaks? I have heard a lot of complaints about the Pirelli.

I have put about 5,000 miles on each tire, and both in the snow handle the same. Have not noticed any difference in light snow, ice, sleet, heavy snow, etc.
What I have noticed is that for those few periods of no snow on the ground and driving around on dry surface, the Pirellis wear down quicker where the Blizzaks seem to be less prone to wear.

But other than that, I have not noticed any difference, both have same traction, noise, etc.

Good info. I actually passed on the Pirelli's this winter for some Dunlop Winter Sports and they have been great.

It really makes me think about getting some AWD, since the winter really sucks here. I don't want any SUV, but something what you can really enjoy driving.

What would you choose? EVO or STI?

Never tried their winter tires but I have some Dunlop Direzzas on the CLK and maybe cuz they're still new they have been decent in 1-2" of snow. Of course driving cautious and slower but was better than I expected.

AWD + manual + turbo is more fun than SUVs.
As you can see I prefer Subarus over Mitsubishi. I like the interior of the STi and looks better. The motor also has a nicer and more unique tone in the Subaru. And when I test drove both, the Subaru felt overall better built.

Thanks, it definitely makes the winter blues pass by quicker and less painful.

very nice, how on earth do you mange insurance payments? I had an extra Isuzu Rodeo 4 wheel drive for the winter but we decided to sell the 3rd car as it was taking up too much room (kids use the 3rd car garage for bikes etc.)

As for winter tires I use Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3 on the CLK. We had lots of ice this morning here in Palos Park (Chicago SW burbs). While these tires handle very well, in this ice was a bit tricky. Lots of turns sideways, and on one T intersection where I have to make a left turn while going down a slight hill I thought I will never stop even as I was maybe doing 10 MPH approaching it. ABS and ESP going crazy and I managed to take the turn sideways and sliding back and forth finally got it straight with out hitting the curbs and brick mailboxes. Crazy morning

Close call. We had some ice rain this morning also. I decided to take the bus to work since the stop is right in front of my house. I almost fell twice walking that short distance, I could imagine driving the CLk. Lol

Unfortunately we do not have buses here and I have to drive the 4 miles to the train station. I could have worked from home and now that I think about it I should have. I work from home on Wednesdays and could have moved it. Anyway, I worry more bout other drives although it was pure ice in my subdivision. Was a bit better on the main streets but still the 55mph stretch of road threw the forest preserver was a bit icy so had to slow down. The county (I'm in unincorporated area) does not have the $ to properly salt the roads (will get worse). I like to have fun in the snow but today was crazy like a total glass.

The cars that are garaged during winter I put on just theft and fire policies and vice versa for summer. Plus they all have low mileage policies since none of them ever get more than 5,000-6,000 miles/year. Also having all them with same insurance company they give you significant discounts.

Nice, I have to check if I have the low mileage option on my policy as I put on maybe 3500 miles / year at the most.

You should definitely do it if you have not already, I believe most insurance companies offer it for anyone who puts less than 7,500 miles/year.
