I'm suprised there aren't more posts regarding child seats and airbags. Maybe those with MB's end up having to get rid of them when a child comes along
Anyway, my question is if it is possible to turn off the side (curtain) airbags in the back seat? I'm planning on putting a rear facing child seat in the back soon. I know the front seat is able to turn off by either weight or the sensor but what about the back?

I would not pull any fuse to disable the side airbags. The side airbag is not as powerful plus it is 'thinner' and longer (similar to the pool floater) than the front ones. Moreover, it is safest to belt the baby in the middle seat which the CLK does not have.
I don't think a rear facing child seat would fit tightly back there if you planned to have someone sit directly in front (at least comfortably).
This is reason why coupes are not practical for family with small children.
Minivans are the best vehicle for family. Perfect for tight space due to their sliding door design plus all the room (much much better than SUVs).

You guys are too spoiled. How do people that have small cars and can't afford something bigger do it?
Get a car seat that you think you'll be using and try it out. See how it fits and if you think you'll be able to put your kid in there every day. If you think you'll have hard time doing it then look at what else you think may work for you. Getting rid of the car because you think it might not be safe is rubbish. The kid would be safer in the back of that Benz as much as in any other car. And I say car, not a tank or as some may call them suvs.

on some of the other comments - He's 2 now so I have a recaro child seat in the back behind the passnger seat - it works fine. not idea, kindavu pain sometimes but it works. obviously a sedan would be easier. But the thing that saves the CLk is that the passenger seats slide so much foward, unlike other 2 seaters/coupes. So you have a lot of room to manuever. And I also have an X5 for my family car, so my CLk is just to drop my kid off in the morning on my way to work. Point is, having a CLK is not the end of the world, it actually works better than most coupes.

well you can scoup up E55's right now dirt cheap for the low. i really don't like the E500's at all personally and they always seem to have a malfunction or 2 or 3 when I get in one. I'd prefer an 03/4 E55 over an 05/6 E500 for the same price.
or like I said, 07+ G35 Sedan. Such a sleek, comfortable, awesome driving car. I have toyed with this for the last few months and it's starting to make its way into my brain for a daily driver. Who knows.
