2004 CLK320
Power Loss

My 2004 CLK320 now has more than 200,000 km (124,000 miles) on it.

While everything is working fine, I feel that my car has lost power. Is this normal for an older car?

Last air filter change: Jun-2010
Last oil change: Nov-2010
MAF change: May-2008
Last change of spark plugs: At 100,000 KM
Replace transmission fluid (partial): Feb-2009

Unless there is a major change in HP, I find it impossible to actually tell if a car has lost power (or gained for that matter, I mean really, can someone actually feel a 10hp increase from an ECU tune...), especially over a series of years. In your case though, no doubt that you aren't producing factory spec power anymore with 200,000km but it's probably not miles off. Only true way to tell - dyno run.

It's just a feeling when I drive the car lately.

I am not aware of any dyno run in Toronto.

According to FSS, I should change my oil in another 6K KM. I am thinking to change the spark plugs at the same time.

You could also change the spark plug wires.

I thought the spark plug wires should be changed when I have problems starting the car at rainy days.

Do these wires affect power as well?

What you felt probably just a sluggist performances. Do an ECU or/and MAF reset procedure and see if it help. I know the one mod that will bring back the feel of performance in your car again........Sprint Booster !!

I checked my repair records.

Back in May-2008, the MAF sensor was replaced when I experienced hesitation on acceleration from stop.

This was the only time the MAF sensor was worked on. I do not experience any similar hesitation symptom.

What does this MAF cleaning do? I did some research and this looks like something that has to be done in the sop.

The tune should also take off the speed limiter.

Yup. Other than that, there is no way to really tell for yourself.

I was able to "feel" the difference right after I had my ECU tuned.
