Stealer Guesstimate

Afternoon,

2003 CLK 320 209 body

I just left the stealer with a quote for 4k, is it because i'm a woman??

breakdown:

Air-filter 108.00
Valve cover gaskets 612.00
spark plugs 357.00
Caster arm bushings 607.00 (of which i cannot find anywhere, are they called something else?)
front lower control arms 684.00
rear brake pads 369.00
brake hoses 679.00
alignment 300.00

not asking for pity here. but, what is up with these prices? I went on Bimmerspecialist and found several of the parts. Is there a better site for these parts? and what in the world is a caster arm bushing, i cannot find it anywhere.

is this a job which can be done at an Indy here on long island if i bring them the parts.

appreciate the responsive efforts

Thanks Michelle

Welcome. Those prices definitely do look crazy. You could go with parts.com or autohausaz.com for the parts. save your time and money and take the list over to an Indy and they will take care of you.

I think the caster arm is the upper control arm, but not sure.

Those are high prices. I just had an alignment at an MB dealer and it was $129.00.

As for caster arm bushings, I have never heard that phrase in associaton with any car. Caster is not the name of a part, but basically the name of an angle. They set the caster as part of a wheel alignment. The caster is controlled by the angle of the suspention parts the front wheel connects to. This dealer refers to some bushing there as caster bushings, but what exactly, I do not know.

Welcome.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience at the.........
Wes is right with the parts websites. Both are great place to shop for what you need. Some of it you may not.

Get a good referral of someone you trust on an Indy and you should be fine.

1. How many miles are on the car?
2. Is it leaking anything you can see?
3. Is it running rough? At idle? On the highway?
4. Does it make any grinding sounds when you brake? Squeak?
5. Does the steering wheel want to pull one way or the other?

Just trying to get a good idea of things, and put a few in your head as well?

Good luck with it.

lol @ spark plugs $357. Bring it down to any friend who is a competent car nut and he'll do it for cost of plugs ($5 x 12 = $60) and a sandwich or something. Air filter? $40 for the damn part.

rear brakes for $369? Brake hoses for $679?! LOL. An indy will do this stuff for half the price or lower.

good luck, and i sure hope you don't go to that dealer again for service...

castor arm bushing? Front lower control arm? It sounds like you were aiming for potholes in ny instead of dodging them. You can change the filters yourself for less than 40 but not the rest
