Question: Above is listed:

Wheels: CLS AMG Reps Silver 17x8 ET35 all around
Tires: Yokohoma ADVAN S.4 225/45/17F - 245/40/17R

If the wheels are all the same size, why are the tires different?

I bought the wheels for the winter and ordered them with my stock tire size.

Nope, not mine, as mine are staggered which confuses the math. But with all of them the same size, I suppose they could go with a higher profile on the rear to make it sit more angled. Just trying to figure out the "right" size and why it would be "right."

OK, so which fits better or looks better the fronts or the backs? Or is there any noticeable difference?

The only difference between the front and the back is the width. You can't really notice the difference. I would go with 235/265 regardless of the size of the wheels.

So that's good/best for 17 x 8"? Because of look or function or longevity or all of the above?

Sorry to pester.

All of the above. If you're getting new tires, go with those sizes.

Holy ****! I just measured my wheel width. Three appear to be 8" wide and one of the rears is a full inch wider. WTF? Oh well, one more reason to do some switching.

The actual height of the tire (ie. 35 series vs 30 series) is different from front to back also. The front tires are one size taller. I really don't know why MB does it like that, it seems like if they put the taller tire in the rear it would give the car a good looking rake.

Which end is the speedometer pick-up on?

Smaller tires do accelerate faster.

Clearly with bigger tires on the front they aren't worried about clearance requireing the back to be smaller.

I guess it could be aesthetics too. Maybe they think the hood slopes too much and they are offsetting that.

It is an odd decision.

I'm thinking it is for comfort. You "feel" things a lot more through the front tires and the bigger the sidewall the more vibrations dispersed through the tire?

That makes a lot of sense too, and keep the rears small for get up and go.

Actually, they are almost the same height. 35 and 30 are percentage ratios in regards to the width, the only way the front's would be abnormally larger than the rear is if you ran the same width, aka 235-35 and 235-30. The 265-30/19 are 79.5mm sidewall height and the 225-35/19 are 78.7mm, the rear is larger by .7mm

Dam**T Kev! you are right lol. Most of my cars in the past had relatively the same width wheel front to rear so I always associated the series with height of the actual tire. It is IN FACT a ratio of width. I lose. haha

5-8mm wouldn't be hubcentric. Smallest you could go is 10mm, and go with H&R.

I have 5mm in the rear and I think it is not balanced well because at 65 my rear is shaking... I contacted OEM wheels and they are looking at solutions

The reason there is shaking is because anything less than 10mm is not hubcentric. There is no solution except switching to a 10mm spacer.
