Performance: 55 vs Caymann S
So my buddy found the deal of the year. A 2010 Cayman S with less than 10k miles for 44k CHF which is 51k USD. Where we live that's what you call a deal. The reason why it's so cheap is because it's been in an accident. He'll have to drop probably 5k for the bodywork and that's abt it.
Anyways I been thinking how close performance wise the two are. His car is lighter (1340kg) with 320 hp, mine is an extra 350kg but I do have close to 390hp & 600Nm (Powerchip Ecu tune 2 weeks ago) where he only has... much less. Oh and the Porsche is 6MT not PDK.
By the time his car is out of the shop, I will have my straight pipes/quads installed so I should be closer to 400hp mark (decided to go with no cats )
What are your thoughts??
Oh and just the other night I was driving through the backroads of Geneva and a 997 4S ended up in front of me. Whenever we hit a straight line without radars he would WOT and even though it took me a good second to realize what he was doing, I was right there on his ***, he just couldnt get away!! We probably did 3-4 straights, it was cool, very entertaining and he was also very cool about it (gave me the thumbs as we parted out in different directions). I honestly thought the 4S was capable of doing better but I guess my ECU tune really did make a big difference.
I JUST CANT GET ENOUGH OF MY SECOND GEAR!!!

Oh and last night right around the corner of my house, a silver S600 pulls up next to me at a red light. He looks at me and revs. I put it in S mode, down to 1st gear, light turns green and off we go. I had a little wheel spin but I had him the whole time BUT I was surprised how close he stayed next to me. I was like wow that big ol S600 has some serious muscle! Wasnt the new S class but the previous gen.

If you go to zeroto60times.com you'll see the Cayman S compares pretty closely. To me it's more fun to think we compare closley to a Ferrari Testarossa! Older car I know, but still cool.

You can buy caymans s from 2007 and less than 50 000 km for 36 000 € in germany. It is much better than the 55 AMG in a circuit, but the 55 is better dragster i think. It's very very different, mid located engine, much lower gravity center, lighter, 2 seater ... it's absolutely superior for racing in a circuit or the typical mountain road, but it's not very useful for real life driving

lol on these mountain roads im sure the porsche would out perform the 55 but im talking about highway drag race. There is no way we would race in the city so highway is our only option...

BTW I have understood that speed fines in CH are extremely expensive, are they?

Yup it's no joke. Nowadays in CH if you get caught at high speeds on the highway the fine will be based on your total income. Last summer a Swedish guy living pretty close to me got caught at 290km/h in a SLS and paid close to 726 000 EUROS!! Almost 900'000CHf, more or less 1'000'000$
