Brazilian Desperate MB owner-Need Help! CLK500

Hi guys, I am speaking from Brazil, and I reaaaaaaaaaly need help. I just got the car of my dreams! A 2003 CLK500 with 60K KM on it. Almost new! Very Happy with it, however there is some Air conditioning issue. It just does not cools enough. There is nothing wrong with the gas (i took the car to and auto shop to measure it and it is all fine, no leaks whatsoever but they do not know how to fix the air) But the air´s temperature that is comming out of the vents is around 14 degrees celcius (in the LO mode), not enough to cool the interior of the car. I took the car to the MB dealer and they say that to fix that would cost around 8 thousand dollars, I felt raped LOL. But I did not fixed there of course. After viewing many pages in this forum, and talking with some people, they said that it is possible to reset the AC system. So my question is, does anyone know how to do this procedure... I love the car but this is the only problem to be fixed. Thank you for all in advance!

NO LONGER ACTIVE
You can try to reset the A/C control system. Press and the "Front Defrost" and "Recirculate" buttons simultaneously and hold them for about 5 seconds until their indicator LED lights begin to blink. Release the button and the lights will continue to blink for about 20 seconds while the system runs some tests and recalibrates.

I never measured the temperature of the cold air near the vents but 14c seems OK.

If the MB dealership quoted you $8K, what would they fix or change?

I have done that reseting Rudeneythanks for the advice, however it is still the same. Mis3, they said theu need to replace the automatic system! 14c it far from ok, the ideal is -2 to 0, otherwise it can not do anything. The cilmate here is around 35c year around and the car really gets hot. Imagine the combination of hot car+sun+wide windows+ people inside of the car, it really needs something better than 14c comming out of the vents....I can not believe that I bought a Lemon!

Indy meaning an independent shop other than Mercerdes, sometimes they have considerably better prices.

Good luck.

Has the car's compressor been recently replaced?

Reason I ask that is that you have to put compressor oil in it when you install a new compressor and fill up the gas. And the gas pressure is fine in your car, but if there is more oil in the compressor than needed, it keeps the air from getting properly cold.

Btw, 14c sounds quite good. Its 47 degrees Celsius where I live right now and I'm the happiest man alive on 18c. :P

My thought exactly. 14C sounds right. I don't think the temp near the vents would go down to 0c even when my car was new.

You and me both dude! However, to cool the interior to 18 the ac would need to pump out air a lot colder than 14 otherwise you'd never getbit down to a comfortable level with the sun in the windows and heat given off by passengers I would think... 0 or -2 does sound low for sure but I actually was expecting to hear 5 to 7

What do I know about ac? Nada, I'm just put here on this earth to make cars go fast around a track

When I read the above posts I thought, “no way is the AC unit producing 0C air”, but I was curious and at lunchtime today I went out and took some measurements. (I have an 05 CLK320 conv. I’m don’t think the ac has ever been recharged)

It was 86F (30C) ambient here in Atlanta GA around noon. Inside the car was measuring at least 98F(37C) and rising.
Started engine and set the controls to their lowest - 64F (18C) and put the AC on ‘A/C’, not recirc, and not AUTO.

The temperature in the vents quickly fell to 35F (1.5C). After driving for a few minutes the vent temp was fluctuating between 30F and 26F (-1.5C and -3.0C).

So it would appear that 14C is indeed too low.

(EDIT - I meant that 14C is too high)
