noob seeking misc feedback about mods

Hi guys first time posting but I've been lurking about for a few months and whatnot :3

In any case, I'm contemplating a few mods and have come to the pros for clarification.

Item 1: Springs & Lips
I've read extensively on the subject and I'm leaning towards H&R over Eibach, but I don't quite understand the "rear sagging look" that seems to come with H&R springs. Can someone post a pic of a clk w/ sag and one w/o?

Also, do you guys tend to have issues driving around with just the H&R lowered springs? IE: scrapes on speed bumps, driveways, etc.
What about with a lip too?
If you do encounter issues when driving with the aforementioned modifications, please provide some feedback so that I may avoid scratching my car :3

btw http://www.ebay.com/itm/BENZ-W209-CL...ht_1198wt_1159 i'm assuming this is a fairly decent/average price? a lot of the threads i've read date back a few years so i'm not sure how the economy has affected lip prices and whatnot lolol

Item 2: Rims
In https://mbworld.org/forums/clk-class...must-have.html that thread, the OP states that one must sport 18"-19" for optimal badassery, but follows with this corollary:"if you're in a 350 or less trim CLK, most case scenarios is that the factory loves dressing these cars with low appeal rim packages". Does that mean that 17" 5 spoke amg rims are okay? :3
Regardless, lol this is a testimony to how much of a noob i am, could someone explain wheel sizes and whatnot to me? I've tried reading up on it online but it don't really get it :x like what does 225/70R14 mean, etcetc.

Item 3: Spoilers
Lol the dreaded spoilers :c how far can one go without being a ricer? I've thought about just going with the AMG OEM type trunk spoiler but, honestly, it seems like it's just for aesthetics and they're really quite common :o http://www.ebay.com/itm/CARBON-FIBER...ht_8344wt_1159 would that be okay? okay as in decent looking and not too ricer x3 I'd also like some functionality w/ my spoiler and not just pure looks

Item 4: Vandalism
lol i read a thread on the black series forum about this guy getting his cf spoiler ripped off, which prompted this section of my post ): I live in a pretty awesome environment and it's unlikely that I'll get keyed here, maybe some old lady will hit my car with a shopping cart or some other careless derp but intentional damage seems unlikely. I am, however, going to college soon and I'd like, if at all possible to not get keyed and whatnot. Hoping to go to USC anyway, I was wondering what mods tend to set people off or attract "unwanted attention".

Thanks in advance!
Also, are there any other "must have" mods that I'm missing out on? I considered an exhaust mod but I sent an eisenmann soundclip to a few of my friends and got negative feedback (girls, of course) so i think i'll stay away from exhaust mods for now!

First off....welcome...

To get an understanding of the different drops take a look at the wheel thread that has different photos of different drops, with the different specs. I personally have eibachs with a #1 spring pad. Your front lip will get scraped up especially if you're dropped when you hit dips/ bumps, but not speed bumps....always park backwards...lol...

With a drop, in my opinion, 18's or 19's are the only choice to go....20's make the CLK look like a monster truck and 17's just aren't quite covering the wheel gap enough with a drop. Pay close attention to offset and look at your options of tires.

The carbon fiber spoiler you posted is aftermarket and the fitment is not perfect compared to the Black Series spoiler, but don't worry about vandalism especially if you live in a good area....but remember it only takes one jerk to screw everything up.

As for other mods, you should look at getting the sprint booster, tint (of course), and work towards getting your exhaust done eventually....you'll be pretty much all set!

Good luck, keep us updated, and post some photos!

Welcome...

1 & 2: Check out "Official Wheel/Tire/Stance Fitment Thread"

Check out this link for Tire Size Guide: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=46

3. Not a big fan of that spoiler

4. Don't think you should have a problem with vandalism...

As for other mods, there are too many to list.

Cheers.

The spoiler.... Oh how did I miss that!

I'd definitely pass on that bro, you don't want to be in the same company as some dumb *** f'in poser like the *** wipe that has it on his SKL350 'AMG'... mind you, he must be pretty hardcore as he is running two, yes TWO spoilers, the rice-o-rama eBay piece and the factory MB one.

First off, you should post a picture of your car as is so people can get a better idea of what you're dealing with and give you the best feedback.

Anyways, the first thing I'd do is get clear (or smoked if your car is black) corner lights. A simple $50 gets rid of those amber lights and makes the car look much cleaner.

Then I'd go with getting 18" wheels. 17s just not satisfying, 19s you have to be careful driving with, and 20s are just crazy. Plus, 18" tires are not much more than 17" tires whereas 19" tires are decently expensive.

Then I'd go for a rear AMG style lip and not the spoiler/wing you listed. Wings are for sports/race cars not luxury/sports cars.

Then I'd get '06+ facelifted LED taillights. Makes the car look 5 years newer.

Then the lowering kit OR front lip but I'd go with the springs. With both you have to be careful with driveways and parking lot curbs. My car is lowered with no lip and I sometimes scratch the bottom of my front bumper on some driveways.

As for vandalism, your town should be fine but you have to be careful at school. I just graduated college in May and had my E320 egged (on Mischief Night) and my CLK500 keyed the last weekend there. There will be times where you want to park your car in the front for everyone to see but don't, especially overnight on the weekend. Park your car out of sight and not in the general traffic. Then it just comes down to modestly and not being an a-hole to people because you got more to lose than others and your car is an easy target but overall at a big school like that, you should be fine. Good luck and enjoy college while it lasts.

hadn't thought about corner lights before, going to get some of those and magnaflow muffler/tips first. i'll update with pics and whatnot soon. (:

kevin brings up a good point, does anyone else have bad experiences with cf front lip + lowered?

I did some more reading up on exhausts and whatnot and I think I'll go with a magnaflow muffler on my oem single exhaust. It'll have an underdog look and surprise with it's throaty roar

Anyway, I just want to confirm that this is indeed the correct muffler for the job:
http://www.amazon.com/Magnaflow-1124.../dp/B000XQQ09G
the magnaflow 11245. I've read around other threads and searched and that was the one that seemed to pop up the most. That and the 11255 but that one has off-center piping.

I ask because my perusing through the forums has turned up that the 11245 is the muffler to go to for the clk500, but it's piping is only 2.25" while the clk500 sports, to my knowledge, 2.5" pipes. Should i get the 2.5" 11246 muffler instead?
