How is carsoft going to make the Comand 2.0 read .mp3 files?
I have carsoft as well but it's for diagnostics(!?)
The Comand 2.0 doesn't have the mp3 decoding hardware or software.

This will allow you to play mp3s from USB drive or iPhone:

It simulates as your cd changer, so If you have a cd changer you will loose that functionality if you install this.

Yes, that was possible on W211 after an firmware update to the Comand.
I hardly think that was done with carsoft.
But as far as I know there hasn't been released an FW update since 2002-2003 for Comand to W209/W203.

Take a look before in ur glovebox compartment for a pre-wired AUX (Normally might be found there- else u need to connect one)

What year is your 209? On some cars the Comand unit single disc player can't play mp3's but the 6 CD stacker in the glove box can. In some respects the W209 is a bit of a hybrid car due to it's long production cycle & it's midlife change from D2B to MOST.

Glyn is correct - there were major changes for MY2005 on all MBZ models (except the G and ML). This included a new CAN bus system and conversion from D2B fiber to MOST fiber. With this upgrade, COMAND units were also upgraded to use DVD's instead of CD's for map discs and circuitry was added that allows them to decode MP3's on discs (changer or built-in). From the OP's photo, his vehicle appears to be a pre-facelift (MY2004 or earlier) so its COMAND unit can't decode MP3's. Simply replacing the COMAND unit with a later model sounds like a solution, but it's not - the new model is larger and won't fit in the facelifted dash without a lot of mods. It wouldn't interface with the CAN bus (no steering wheel controls) and if you have the Bose amp, that would have to be replaced and rewired since it uses D2B and the new COMAND uses MOST. Honestly, the best solution is to go aftermarket.

that is true, yet an aftermarket option in addition to leaving everything functioning like steering wheel buttons would end up costing much.
- you would need a Double Din (in case you want a touch screen..bla bla bla)
- if ur thinking of keep the look & feel of the OEM model, then the best choice is a Dynavin MC-2000 which does not come cheap.
- For the steering wheel, you would need the PAC series to be able to use all the keys on ur steering wheel.
in addition to labor + Antenna cable + Console fascia (trim needed for the double din in case of kenwood or pioneer for instance).
& offcourse, when u set the new system, u'll be tempted to go for a better sound system...
if u have Bose, oh well, either you set a converter before the AMP to keep the system working on a 2ohm, or u need to rewire with a new amp & sound working on a 4ohm....
good luck

Owners manuals contain sometimes confusing data. Having owned my 2009 for a week I have made no effort to see if the Comand or 6 CD stacker will play MP3's. I just shoved a cartridge of CD's into the stacker from my previous car. From the pic the OP's car is pre facelift as you say.
