Performance Modding Questions

I read through all the performance threads here a lot but I had a couple additional questions I couldn't find a direct answer too.

1. How much mileage is 'too much' to start modding an everyday driver? I have a 06 clk500 with around 75k miles, clean history and been babied... is that fine to start modding (performance)? Very broad question but whatever two cents you have I would like to hear.

2. Is there a nicely written informational website on performance modding? I feel like I know a decent bit, but sometimes it can make my head spin, would be nice to have a place to get detailed information on what a particular type of mod is really going to give you. Obviously that information is out there somewhere, but a collection for all mods would be great, especially one with a mercedes slant.

yea, that thread is great

Looking more for a performance tuners "bible" if you will, sites a mod junkie might reference. Of course you can find some on google, but thats why I am asking for peoples favorites or recommendations.

75K on a well maintained M113 is pretty much just getting broken in, if you have any doubts, do a compression test.

As for mods, what are you after, power or balanced performance? The usual mods for any n/a car are intake, exhaust and tune.

Kev, if there is something wrong in the compression of the car, shouldn't that light up in ur dash as an error occurring in the engine compartment?

Thanks for the Mileage input Kev.

I guess I worded my modding question wrong... there is so much information on this site alone that I am pretty sure what I plan to mod as far are performance goes... I was just wondering if some of the more veteran modders used any specific racing/modding website as their general reference with great detail, instead of people saying a lot of the same general things.

Currently my modding path is to replace my 20s with 19's and get a drop, then get a magnaflow quad exhaust with the Amg tips (only have 2 of 4 tips atm).

Compression test

Dear Kev,

I seen that you mentioned something about doing a compressin test on our clk500 w209 to find out how good the motor is and if you can actually start modding it up big time. Well, I just actually did the compression test and I got 190 acrosss the board; thats what my shop told me. So looking at how much experience u have I wanted to ask me if thats good. The shop that did it told me thats PERFECT just like factory setting. Can u plz give me your in put on it. Thanks

Sure sounds good to me mate, very strong! Also a great sign that all the cylinders are up there, none are reading lower.

Let the modding begin...
