Reduce oil level
Hi,
I took the car out for a drive for 10-15min after having it stored for about 6 months.
In the years I have owned the car I have never used the check oil function before(haven't had time to drive the car much).
So I thought I might test the function today after my 15min drive and the cluster to my surprise said "reduce oil level".
The cluster only warned me about the oil level after the oil check, it does not warn me if I just start the car and drive of.
Service A is coming up in about 18 days, should I do something about the oil level now or wait for the service?
I did not check the oil level after I serviced the car last year, should I be worried that I might have driven the car with too much oil last year?
There can't be more than 8L of oil in the engine since I bought 4X2L oil last service.
Thanks!
/Mike

In my 2004 CLK320, I have 2 ways to checked my engine oil. One is the regular way in the instrumental cluster and the other way is go into dyno mode. Do they use the same oil level sensor?

I'll leave the car in the garage til my service A and I'll tell my mechanic to do it right this time.
I know this question has been answered before, but how do I put it in dyno mode to check how many Litres of oil there are in the engine?

Just checked the oil level again, 6,5 hours after I drove the car. The oil level is OK now according to the cluster.
Can this "problem" be because I haven't driven the car in 6 months?

Below is the instructions to go to dyno mode. Hope this work for your w209.
1. Make sure the cluster shows temperature before you shut the engine.
2. Turn the key to Ignition-1. Within 2 seconds., press the reset button 3 times. You will hear a beep and you are now in Dyno mode.
3. The 1st display will show the voltage.
4. Press the left upper button on the steering wheel to go into the 2nd display.
5. Start the engine and you will see the oil level. This value will go down as the oil circulates into the engine.
Mine shows 7.5-7.6 L initially and it will go down to 5.5-6.5 L while I am driving.

Sounds like the oil sensor got stuck.
The only time to worry is when you know the oil level was correct but it starts rising.
Potential problems causing dilution of the sump oil:
Dribbling injector/s - fuel dilution.
Water leak - internal/head gasket - water in sump.
Diesel in petrol cocktail in your filling station tanks - unburnt diesl in sump.
Too many cold starts & short trips leading to water contamination - water in sump
EECS problem with saturated carbon canister due to overfilling the tank - fuel dilution of sump oil.

I only fill the car with V-power 99.
Thanks Glyn, I read a thread in the C class section where you had answered, somebody had similar problem but I had to ask since my circumstance was a little bit different.

Water in sump can get up to 10%. Take her for a long hot drive or change the oil!

If you did not drive the car for 6 months, all kinds of strange things can happen. I will not even trust the fuel in the gas tank unless you put in some kind of fuel stabilizer before the storage.
For me, if this malfunction message appears once and not coming back, I will not worried about it. Put in as much new fuel as possible and go for a long drive.
If you are concerned about the oil level, how about go to a local MB dealership and ask them to check the oil level for you. They have the proper dipstick and it will take 2 minutes to check.

Exactly! Dont wait 2 weeks for the service!
And too much oil is a No Go! Can damage many inner parts.
