Hi ya all. I am looking to buy a 350 slk. The vin number is wdb1714562f093595. It is on a 55 plate and the guy I am buying the car off of says that this balance shaft problem normally shows up at around 40k miles. This car has done 80k and drives really well. It has a full merc history other than the last 2 services which were carried out by a specialist company. It has previously had 2 owners. Any help / advice would be great.

 

The engine number from a copy of the v5 is 63410 if this helps.

 

Really love the way this car drives. I had a P plated 320 estate which ran on LPG and after having owned many different cars for short periods i.e. less than a year I kept the old merc for 8 years, unlike the wife she never let me down. Now divorced I found that I no longer needed such a large utility vehicle and let her go, the 320 that is. Been merc less for around a year now and have to say it is exciting to be back behind the 3 pointed star. The car is for my new partner and the comparison between the 2 women is similar to the comparison between the 2 cars

Both of these are beyond the balance shaft issue range, but may still have issues with the camshaft adjuster solenoids (a.k.a. "cam magnets"). Luckily, those are cheap and easy to fix.

Yep - in the range - M272 #168433 (as expected with a MY2006)

 

That CL550 has M273 engine #110033 which is beyond the affected range for balance shaft issues.
