I apologize for posting this in the W209 forum however this thread is the most involved towards the M272 balance shaft & M273 idler gear issues and folks post about other cars than the CLK.
I am in the market for CL500 C216 with the M273 engine. I have targeted a specific car which I saw live a couple of days ago and next week we are meeting to have an independent shop make a full pre-purchase inspection. The owner of the car has supplied me with the VIN which I ran through a decoder to get the engine serial number. So far so good, however the serial number differs a slight bit from all M273 engine serial numbers posted in this thread and I couldn't find such scenario in all 65 pages which I read through in addition to many other threads & information in Google.
The VIN is: WDD2163711A003933
The engine serial number I get is: 273961 09 309363
As you can see the 6 digits (309363) seem to be way after the affected engines, but the 2 digits before them are not the usual "30" instead it's "09". I have seen another CL(Here's VIN for reference: WDD2163711A012327) with such engine serial number so I am not sure how to read it. One of Rudeney's explanations some pages back is that the 2 digits before the last 6 increment by 1 once the 6 digits surpass 999999, which on the M272 made sense as it went form "30" to "31". In my case though it seems to run backwards?
Do you guys have any idea how this should be interpreted and whether it falls in the affected M273 engines or I am safe?
Thanks in advance!
The TSB notes a few exclusion: the 164.156 (ML350 RWD, non-4MATIC), the W204 and the 216.386 (CL550 4MATIC). I believe these are excluded only because these models did not go into production until after the problem was identified and corrected.

Thanks in advance 🙏
