You'll get a mix of votes. I vote no. If you need it, then you'll be glad you bought it. But just remember the odds of you needing it beyond what you pay for it are low. That's why they exist. They are a huge profit maker for the seller - MB or anybody else. They know people buy them for peace of mind but hardly anybody gets their money's worth out it. Some people will advise things like "Get it, it will absolutely pay for itself." Well, no. If that were even remotely true for most people there would be no such thing as extended warranties, or they would be incredibly expensive. You are just playing the odds with the odds stacked against you, so I'll keep my money and take my chances.

The extended warranties aren't cheep either. When I bought my CLK500 at MB of SF it already came with a year because it was Certified pre owned. I was given the option to add another two years (so 3 years total) for a little over $3,200. So that means in those two years you need need to have more then $1,600 worth of issues for it to be worth it. It also cost a lot more if you are out of warranty and want to purchase it so keep that in mind too.

Now when I bought my C230 sedan from MB of Pleasanton I had 3 days left on my warranty after I got it so I had the option to buy it at the in warranty price which they quoted me $3,700 for an extra Three years. I was extremely close to buying it because it was my first benz and I was scared of all the stories I had heard about hefty repair costs. Last minuet I decided not to because I was already going into debt from the car loan and didn't want to be in deeper.
It has now been 3 years from then (august was its 3 year point) and I have had a $400 seat belt sensor replaced and a $500 EPS issue; which puts the total cost of repairs at $900 and I would have been out of warranty by now. So that puts us at $3,700- $900= $2,800.

So if I would have gotten the warranty I would have lost $2,800. So it was the right decision for me to not buy the warranty.

But lets say something like my transmission gave out in that period, that kind of repair could be al lot more and then it would have been more worth it to get the warranty. It really just depends on how many and what kind of issues you have

Also with the warranty its just nice having the peace of mind and not worrying about hefty repairs coming your way.

When I bought my CLK500 I did decide to buy the extended warranty only because they gave me the option to buy it now and return it for a full refund within the 1 year that I am under my CPO warranty. I most likely be returning at the end of the year but decided to get it just to have the option of choosing either way.

So in the end I would say just get a quote from your local dealer on the different extended warranties that you are eligible for and see which ones the best choice for you or if maybe you feel that its just not worth it then there always is Indys to use if anything goes wrong or for the more simple things you can always DIY.

Good luck to the OP!

NO LONGER ACTIVE
For most people whose idea of DIY means they can handle changing fluids and doing brakes, then I's recommend a warranty. If the idea of spending $500+ on the Chinese copy of MBZ Star Diagnosis software, removing an intake manifold, transmission or oil pan doesn't scare you, then skip the warranty.

I bought a two year old C230k 04 Coupe, CPO and got extended warranty through 2011 for about three grand.

I found a handful of receipts from MB totaling, roughly 10 grand of warranty work in the final years of warranty.

Worth every penny.

I bought my 2007 CLK550 in Jan 2011. It still had the factory warranty until Jun 2011. In May 2011 I had the engine replaced under the original factory warranty. I never got a price on the RR but it had to have been at least $12k. I went ahead and bought an extended warranty just because of my experience which was very good. The only time I have used the extended warranty was to have the instrument cluster replaced. That had to have been $1k.

I paid about $3165 for the extended warranty which made it a 7yr/75000 warranty. I made sure I bought the MB extended warranty. Make sure you shop around, I live in GA and bought mine from MB of Georgetown in Georgetown, TX. I tried to buy it from the local dealer and they quoted me a price of $4200. When I told them how much MB of Georgetown was selling it to me for they basically called me a liar. So MB of Georgetown got my business. I highly recommend them.
