Removing factory iPod adaptor??

Hey everyone (and Rudney)

As it is well known, the factory iPod adaptor really blows. Impossible to read and very hard to maneuver thru the MFD in the dash.

It occurs to me - it would be better if I just had a plain old 1/8" headphone jack input rather than the 30 pin Apple connector. Then I could Pandora and listen to streaming podcasts as well.

Is there any way to unconvert the factory iPod connector back?

thanks in advance.

I agree with you. The steering wheel controls suck. What I did was connect a A2DP Bluetooth receiver to the 30 pin. Now I can simply pair my iPhone or any Bluetooth enabled device to it wirelessly in the glovebox and stream whatever I want including Pandora. The sound quality is great and pretty loud, just not as loud as the radio or CD player can get. I only have 2 complaints. 1) My iPhone doesn't auto-connect to it when it turn the car on. (I'm debating on jailbreaking my iPhone to see if that can make that possible.) I have to go into Settings to connect to it each time I turn the car on but it'd be the same as plugging in the headphone jack I guess just with no wires. And 2) Phone calls don't go through the Bluetooth like it would while connected to a headphone jack. Voice calls still comes out the earphone. Hope that helps. I highly recommend it.

I have a thread about it here.

Thanks Kevin, but I also have the factory bluetooth in the car.
So if I stream your way I dont think I can use the phone. If I plug the 1/8" in, I can listen to my podcasts and Pandora, but if I get a call the iPhone will pause everything and let me answer the call.

Kevin just a quick heads up. DONT Jailbreak your iPhone....

Hahaha been there done that. It's awesome and works great for about 2-3 months and then your phone starts to get a s*** ton of bugs.

Yeah I jailbroke 3 of my iPhones and it was the same exact pattern.

I use a product called Any Stream Bluetooth it was from cartronics but cant seem to locate anyone else selling it. Works great you can stream anything Pandora etc etc with it. I did find this looks very similar worth trying for 40.00.

I see. Trying to get the best of both worlds lol. I think the iPhone can connecting to two Bluetooth devices at the same time. It's a under $20 mod that might be worth trying.

Haha I hate bugs. Yeh I've heard of some people with some bugs. That's why I'm still debating. Have been for 2 years haha.

Thanks Louie, but I'm using the factory bluetooth phone connection, so I dont think I can have two bluetooth connections at one time to the iPhone.

I'll take a try in the audio forum....

NO LONGER ACTIVE
Hey Frank, since I got singled out, I'll chime in! I have no problems whatsoever with the factory iPod connector. I don't have an iPhone. Instead, I use an old 60GB iPod connected in the glove box. I take it out once every few weeks to sync some new music (yes, I know, I could buy a new iPod Touch and sync via WiFi, but then I'd have to spend some money with Apple instead of Mobile 1...) I really don't mind the limited text in the MFD, and I've learned how to quickly navigate my playlists via the steering wheel controls. Besides, I usually listen to the same 20-30 songs in my "favorites" playlist anyhow - you know, some Chili Pepper, Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, Black Keys, Alabama Shakes, etc. - so it's not that hard to deal with.
