Question Insane Idea To Deal With Lovebugs ?

For those of you in the south east, you know that the hell of Lovebug season is fast approaching... those horrible little beasts encrust themselves into your front end as if they were full of super-glue.

I had some work done on my car last week and while I was there one of the techs said that they actually ingest some of the exhaust and emissions from your car - supposedly they fancy it as a post-coitus snack - and when they splatter against your bumper, those chemicals actually further the erosion of your paint job.

I read the other thread on here that said to spray your front end with WD40 -- but my tech at the dealership said that I should spray PAM non-stick cooking spray to coat the front end, that they did that in Florida and they just slide right off, never actually able to stick. That just sounded freaking nuts to me... will that damage my paint job?

I was also considering getting my clk a bra but I was told about the rusting issues and decided against it. This is my second summer down here, and I can still see some of the spots from last summer -- what to do?

Has anyone tried any of this? Does anyone know anything better?

Vinyl sticker sheeting, clear bra? The vinyl does not hurt the paint as far as I know.

I've lived in the south for 20 years now, and the best remedy has been diligent frequent car washes.... Weekly in lb season , and old fashioned elbow grease.

Keep the surface clean and waxed.

I try to rent a car if I'm going to travel long dist in the peak 2 weeks of lb season. Gl

Clear bra helps. But you still have to clean it.

I just go with a good wax job. They seem to wash off fairly easily when the car has a good coat of Carnauba on it.

It seems to be "clear Plasti-Dip". Not a bad idea. In fact, I might try it on my front bumper. It's full of rock chips that have cracked the clearcoat due. I may try this to see if it buys me some time to put off the $700 paint job.

I have my 3M clear bra for 9 years now for my w209, no rust at all.

Another option is to wax often, the bugs will just be wiped off easily.

I tried a "Quick Detailer" product on both the 3M clear bra (not the spray 0n) and the paint to remove the bugs after a good rinse and wash and it worked well. I used Meguiars and it actually says one uses it to remove bugs!

I live near Savannah, so Love Bugs are epic here. I have started hosing off the front end and then for the stubborn ones, I use clean water and a sponge. I would do this each day when I return home from work.
